Brorandus the Luminary of Hope

Chapter 6

Born of clan Battleblade and third youngest, Brorandus was expected to follow
the footsteps of his brother's naturally. The clan was dutiful and known for
their skills with the blade having spanned over six generations of skillful
warriors. Anything other than such a destiny was a strange anomaly to this
clan. After all, there was no history written upon the runes to validate any
past differences.

However, this may or may not change with the birth of Brorandus Battleblade.
He was born the anomaly, but it would take some time before that became
evident.

Over the course of four decades living within the dwarven kingdom and
training in the use of blades Brorandus studied dutifully as he was
instructed. Having an affinity with understanding the natural order and
necessity of his studies, his judgment was always sound and reasonable. This
was self-evident as even his eldest brothers struggled to keep beard to beard
with his growing battle prowess.

Despite the satisfaction of his improvements, the stone and blade was not
enough for young Brorandus. Without having any aid of explanation, he could
only visualize a void between the two elements. On one hand, the stone's
embrace and eternal solitude. An everlasting strength and symbol of fortitude
that would surpass centuries of life against wind and storm. The other hand,
the blade and symbol of his family for generation after generation. The path
and responsibility to uphold the clan Battleblade with dignity and honor.

For Brorandus Battleblade, he left the dwarven kingdom to find that
knowledge. He left to fill that void.

Chapter 5

Brorandus Battleblade, the resident of Galadon proper. Disgruntled by the
pile of stone which lacked any resemblance to a sturdy mountain, he remained
eager to sort out the distance in his heart between blade and stone.

The city of Galadon offered Brorandus more insight than he intentionally
sought. Races of nearly every species and demeanor walked freely within the
market square. Stinking duergars to the occasional pestilence-ridden Orcs...

He quested to learn of the protection this city offered and why such cattle
dung walked freely. The spire was visible for most everyone to see if they
would spare a glance, but the captain's vigilance prevented Brorandus from
holding any form of a conversation. As he turned around he saw the arches of
the building which stood near the Temple of the Sun. The guild of Paladins.

Something swelled within his over-sized chest. A spark of hope within that
void perhaps. It wasn't long before he read the code in which every
Paladin-to-be would adhere to if they were to live such a life.

As a Paladin he continued to inquire of Galadon's population, and while every
other member of the guild shared Brorandus's view upon the duergar, they
pointed out the laws to be respected. They spoke of Lord Marcatis and the
hope of perfection.

Brorandus could not commit himself to enforcing such laws, but he had enough
judgment to understand the necessity of those laws. They would protect the
innocent in a world that has evolved past hereditary segregation and those
laws would be respected.

Chapter 4

Lord Marcatis. Ever since the day the name was brought into Brorandus's mind,
he could not remove it. He began to read the local lore the temple had to
offer as well as the tenants of the religion.

If life was a trial, a test of the spirit of all who lives balanced against
the ideal, then may Brorandus be viewed as the newly forged blade. A blade
balanced between hilt and tip and forged each day by the trials of life to
find that perfection.

The corrupt and chaotic would deface such a blade by etching away its edge
and polish, but the spark of hope and light would be reforged anew. The spark
of hope would keep the spirit of the blade from breaking. Tempered by the
flames of the hottest forge, that only a dwarf could possibly understand, he
would face this corruption and chaos straight on.

If blessed by the Lord Marcatis, Brorandus Battleblade would fill that void
within his heart. He would connect stone and blade and he would deliver the
spirits of those tainted to be weighed and judged true.

Chapter 3

Awaking himself on an hour not normally done, Brorandus Battleblade traveled
to the shrine of his deity, Lord Marcatis. As the words swirled within the
frame of the largest mirror the young dwarf had ever witnessed, they were a
reminder that Lord Marcatis would observe so many and speak to few.
Brorandus was ready to pay his respect with words and deed while only hoping
for the eyes of his lord an no further expectation.

He was greeted by the presence of his lord. What happened next could be
considered an embarrassment for any poet for the amount of words fumbled and
juggled about, but luckily Brorandus never desired to walk the road of a
minstrel. Lord Marcatis left desiring his original question to be answered
with a final thought to meditate upon.

'Consider for me on what basis one should judge--and in light of your words
considering how it cannot be the same for all.'

As quickly as the Lord Marcatis was gone, were his words that much clearer.
One must base their judgment upon the truth or their own set of values. This
is the reason why one's judgment may differ from another, yet remain true to
the individual.

Chapter 2

Strike by strike, Brorandus is aware of his growing understanding. When last
upon the steps of his Lord's shrine, he was left with a final thought to
contemplate as he traveled:


Marcatis says 'If this is true, if an infant is born instantly dark, then why
the importance of comprehension beyond categorization?'

Marcatis says 'Ponder this question as you travel--and what bearing it has on
the cultural versus not or not purely cultural axiology.'

Contemplate and meditate, Brorandus Battleblade has done, even to the point
of dreaming of enlightenment while he slept in the guilds' barracks. Although
the exact answer may still elude him, he has returned time and time again to
the faith of Lord Marcatis. Regarding the origin that we are all born of the
spark and hope for perfection, and that we are then set forth into the trial
of this life.

If we are to accept this as truth, as Brorandus does, then each individual is
born with the gift of choice, virtues and vice. Each soul shall face the
trials of life and overcome that which threatens perfection and growth.

In the days to come, Brorandus Battleblade shall seek out his Lord faithfully
and with hope upon his soul. In his mind, he would against the forces that
threaten an individual's chance for perfection in the name of Lord Marcatis.

Role

Chapter 1

A few inches longer, and a few braids more to absorb its length, the beard on
Brorandus Battleblade's face often is stroked in thought and observation.
Over the years he has sought to hold a keen eye and a firm point of judgment.

On what base can one truly judge? It is understood by Brorandus that one's
judgment may differ from another because such judgment comes from the
individual's own belief and point of view weighted by truth. However, to
stand firm one who may cast judgment must first judge themselves with the
same mold that they cast upon another, and they must absolve any past or
future indiscretions upon the one being judged for only the present
indiscretion is weighed upon this scale.

Lord Marcatis will take account for the spirit's life as a whole and weigh
each action, present and past, together.

Brorandus Battleblade is now a squire of the Fortress to which he seeks to
protect the pure and holy under the light, by keeping them pure and holy. His
war is against the wicked and corrupt and they are judged against such
ideals. The darkness of their aura constitute the present states of their
demeanor and through death may they be brought closer to redemption or the
final Judgment.
