Chapter 1

Strange how new environs, new interactions, can be so illuminating, and at the
same time exactly the same. I have met and become part of a group called the
Scions of Eternal Night. I first met their leader, a male of all things, but
a very large one, at least, who I must admit at least makes a commanding presence,
if not a particularly impressive verbal presentation. Spending some time with
them has shown me that while mortal males are still inferior, they perhaps might
have a few more useful traits than I'd at first thought. Likewise, the vastness of
these lands has shown me how provincial the Matron Mother - and thus we, her
daughters - truly are. Or were, in my case.
But that brings me to the other half, where things are exactly the same. Though
a small world, still, she is ruler there. And so I will take all that I covet now
but from a much larger ocean of lands and people. I will clothe myself in finery.
I will command both fear and respect from all. And in time, if the prophecy does
come true, I will be one of the few who stands alive, and the new order will be
set. Until then, order must still remain, and magic is the most potent of tools.
For now, I will bide my time. Patience is a tool as well, and in time, I will have
all I want from those that might have it. Oh yes, it will all be mine.

Chapter 2

"Silly girl, did you really think your little secret sessions were truly unknown
to me? That I would not be aware of all that transpires in my own demense? That
obvious stupidity is reason enough to justify my decision. Zerserenial shall follow
in my steps, and be Matron Mother upon my death. You are not even to be a daughter
any longer. From now on you will work as though you were a man. A servant. Worth
nothing more than the value of the labor you produce. Begone from my sight!"
And with that the Matron Mother and her escort twirled and with a swish of her
robes led the party out of the back room of the Master of Magic's library, where
for the past 35 years, since her mother, the Matron Mother, had decreed that though
she was first born she would not ascend to rulership of Teth Azeleth, she had come
to study and grow strong enough to overmatch her sister and take the throne anyway.
But somehow she had been caught, found out, betrayed. How careful she had been.
How furtive her movements. Or so she thought. And now, all for naught. But she
would never allow herself to be used as a simple, lowly male. Never. Better to
leave this place and find a new home, a place she can grow and seek power in her
own way, in her own time, and eventually laugh at the petty smallness of her former
ruler and Mother. And so the journey begins. Where it takes her, not even the gods know...
