Chapter 1

Soha is the offspring of a drow battlemage and his female slave, taken in a
surface raiding of a human settlement. His and his mothers death would
normally have been a certainty prior to even his birth, however she hid the
pregnancy well, and even his birth. Even after, his first few years were filled
with the threat of being offered up in some priestly sacrifice of one sort or
another. Even with his drow blood he matured quicker then those of a full
blood ancestry, and shortly he too found himself a slave in his fathers house.
Due to his status as a slave, he found himself often ignored and near invisible
to his fathers attention, so Soha found he was often able to watch his father
with rapt attention during his spell castings in the house courtyard. Afterwards
Soha would often mimic his fathers actions, much to his surprise he found he
too was able to cast some of the spells, albeit only the most rudimentary. Over
time Soha came to realize hed never be offered any formal studying, and as the
life of a slave was something he despised, he managed to flee that captive lifestyle
and never looked back, making his way to the surface and a new life.
