Chapter 1

The desert winds sweep across the sun-scorched huts. All
wait for the coming night. A cool down--a time of relief.
The tribal men tried to work by night and acquire what
rest they could by day. Some would call it a life based
on the simple things. BUt the life was not simple. Perhaps
the methods but the executioni was a burden--a hardship.

These people were once legions of the great Empire. Once
robed in fine silks and feasted on unearned feasts. Diplomats,
nobleman, centurions. It is not known why they no longer ar
at the palace but life such a life in the sands. Generations
have passed and most of the memory and who they once were became
forgotten.

What has been forgotten is that they reason they dwell in the sands
was to extract items from the earth. Relics and other artifacts
that would help a rising Dreadlord into his becomming. They never
returned because they had not found what he saught. And their
delay had costed the Dreadlord his life. The Emperor then renounced
their welcome and told them they would live the pains that those
of the refuge must. And should they stand the trials and live they
would only be welcomed back when they bore a child fit for the magics.
One that would become a servant to the black sect and face the trials
of the becomming. Once they had produced a new Dreadlord that survives
the ritual of becomming might they be graced once more in the presence
of the empire.

And so they began. Raising children of magic by night and shipping them
to the empire. Continually they watch them fall and fail the test of time.
And so Zoder, raised of the T'stu Sahi (the Banished), was shipped
to begin his turn.
