|
Idril Telperin the Grand Mistress of Artistry
DescriptionThis comely woman's skin gives the hint of the night just before the sun reaches for the horizon at the breaking of dawn. She stands straight backed, shoulders squared, with a black hardened leather blade guard straped tightly to her left shoulder. Etched into the leather is a rudimentary pillar under the crude shape of a quickly slashed star. White hair, arrow straight, flows in a single perfect wave down the center of her back. Her remarkable violet eyes seem to shine as brightly at midday as they do in the dead of a moonless night.
Slightly pointed ears, not as prominent as her pure blood relatives, are decorated with delicate hanging silver bells that sound with a soft chime as she moves with the quiet ease of a dancer that does most pure elves envy. She stands as tall as most human men, her body statuesque. Long limbs toned and corded with well defined muscle that suits her coryphee image rather than that of a clumsy, sword wielding soldier.
Two belts circle her hips with scabbard and slip for the few weapons she might need to defend herself. The majority of space holds special placements for the worn, but well cared for cases that no doubt carry her beloved instruments.

RoleChapter 6 Citizens Come Knocking. Added Fri Nov 30 11:10:25 2007 at level 1:Idril's voice carried across the normal clamor and clatter of her most recent stop. The Inn in Barovia was not the ideal spot for a travelling entertainer, but it paid well and that was really what need called for at the moment. A good meal, a pallet and a hefty purse of coin that, as of late, had been lacking. Idril felt she could use the extra muscle to get back to the road as soon as possible. Arkham would be her first stop if she could manage to get to it. Perhaps a few guards would go a long way to aid her past the blasphemous risen brought about by the practicing necromancers that called the outskirts of the town their own. Fear fueled even further by the even more powerful undead in the keep whose intelligence and powers rivaled even the most skilled magi in the academies of Arkham.
Her music, at the very least, seemed to reflect the somber mood of this hamlet. Tragic stories of heroes and maidens of Thera's past. Tales of how not all fables held 'Happily Ever Afters' and 'Blissful Until Death Takes Us.' These were not what most patrons wished to hear, save the occasional lone fellow sobbing into his mug. Still she always had people singing along with her solemn stanzas, even if they wore a frown. On her last day in this Gods abandoned township trouble finally came. In numbers. Her emotive voice seemed to carry louder over the croud as the sounds of men talking, barmaids moving and kitchen utensils came to a complete halt just as she came back to her reprise. A number of soldiers had entered the small inn taking up rows on either side of the large oak and steel bound door, large, gleaming halberds in hand. Dressed in black and bearing the sigil of the codex upon their breastplates they did not so much acknowledge the regulars of the inn, but instead kept their faces forward focused intently on any place they could find upon the wall. Leaving a comfortable amount of room for their commanders to enter and survey their surroundings without fear of obstruction from what they most assuredly considered common rable.
After a long silence two robed figures slowly made their way into the inn, one clad in robes of pitch embroidered with multiple darkened skulls swarmed closely by a brave of hornets. The second cowled figure's robes were dressed in a menagerie of arcane symbols done in silvers and scarlet. Idril knew trouble when she saw it and quickly began to place her harp and dulcimer in their casings to make a hasty exit if needed. Taking a clear picture of the room into her mind she made note of all the potential exits she might make use of.

RoleChapter 5 Pressed Into Service. Added Fri Nov 30 11:18:03 2007 at level 1:The priest looked out over the silent patrons slowly and methodically obviously judging each for whatever unknown purpose he and his cohort had in had in mind. He motioned for two of the guards to move the simple people into a corner of the tavern, bunched together in a frightened mass. "We have come to see if any of you maggots are worthy of the Great Lord Khasotholas, the Empress and citizenship." "Very few we have found in our travels have been worthy of Citizenship." "Most of you will not." His voice lowered, contempt not hidden for the vermin standing before him. Idril left the casing for her well worked dulcimer open, just in case. she was no hero and know she was outnumbered, but perhaps she could create just enough of a distraction for many to escape. Just as she had finished that thought the wizard spoke up in an almost banshee-like shrill voice. "The girl, bring her to me now." Two of the guards moved forward and took the arms of a girl who could not have been older than six. He crouched before her, not an unhandsome man, but his eyes spoke of pain and death. Idril spoke again an again in her mind, "This is not my battle to fight." "This is not my battle to fight." The village can and has stood on it's own for generations and it will do so long after these fools leave. The little girl stepped forward out of her mother's graps as she wept for her child. With no fear in her eyes she approached the shrill man and stood before him, looking him directly in his black eyes. He put a hand over her her shoulder, turning her to face the rest of the villagers. "You have a choice, every last one of you." "Acknowledge Empress Eoria L'liiri as your rightful ruler and serve the empire well, or face the alternative." With his last word the dark wizard pulled a sickly green wand from the sleeve of his cloak and pointed it at the temple of the little girl. With a single indecipherable word the wand flared with a sickly green light, striking the small girl in the temple. One could see her age drastically as she slumped down towards her side, blue eyes clouding over, glassy and empty of the soul that had once shown brightly through them. Calmly, as if nothing out of the ordinary had transpired the stygian necromancer looked up from he corpse of the girl and asked, "Now, who is the mayor of this cesspit?"
Idril had learned from a very young age that stepping in on behalf of anyone that did not directly affect her hide was a bad idea, but this time she had to fight the urge to brain the occultist with her dulcimer. She might have even been able to reach him before she found half a dozen pike blades in her ribs, but she held her calm, waiting for her moment to make her exit unoticed. As the shock and horror began to fade from the faces of the villagers, the realization set in that they were no longer free to govern themselves, but were to be servants and citizens of the empire. The troops began to gather every last man, woman and child outside where members from all sects stood represented to administer the other to all. Idril saw this as her last and only chance for escape. Quietly collecting her belongings she headed for the back of the line, not inches from a window. When she was certain that the wizard and cleric's attention were held with each who were

RoleChapter 4 A Painful Message. Added Fri Nov 30 11:24:17 2007 at level 1:(This should have been place to my journal second, but this will do.)

RoleChapter 3 Purpose Added Fri Nov 30 11:26:34 2007 at level 1:As Idril's eyes slowly fluttered open she immediately felt every ache in every muscle of her body. A huge, but gentle hand rested firmly on her shoulder, keeping her from sitting up. "Yous lucky alive, lady." said the deep, booming voice. "Lucky for lady, Giant knows bandage good." Idril looked about as the fog in her mind cleared some. Kneeling next to her was an enormous, scarred Cloud Giant quite deftly seeing to the wounds on her shoulder better than any surgeon or apothocary at contest could ever hope to accomplish. The pain had receded to nothing more than a dull throb, almost not worth noting. She looked around and noticed another giant, arms crossed, huge and battle-scarred with eyes dangerous and yet filled with sympathy for the injured woman. Both giants slowly helped her to her feet. She rotated her left shoulder warily, still feeling a bit more guarded than she would have liked to, but it was a far cry better than never using the arm again. She looked up at the Cloud Giant trying to find the words to thank him for nursing her back, but even for one who made her living off her guilded tongue the words simply escaped her. The look was not lost on the giant who spoke up before she could, "Shoulder burn bad, very bad." He frowned as he went on, "Some magic not can be healed, but you can use arm good as before." "Just have scar." Rage once again started to surface within her. Her mind awry with chaos she slowly began to shape it into purpose. "You are the famed Drillmaster Brinkmun." She stated without looking up. "Yuh. Brinkmuns" Was the only response. Nodding slowly, the memory of those young, lifeless blue eyes in her mind she made a decision then and there that would change the course of her life forever. It was no longer about her needs alone. Her rage would be focused to rid the world of the corrupt. Those who called themselves magi, corrupt to their very spirit with lust for power no matter who was trod upon would feel the brunt of her rage by song, sword and mace. She turned to the venerable Drillmaster and with conviction asked, "Teach me all you know of field medicine that I may take my place on the front line of the war to put an end once and for all to the murdering heretics.

|
RoleChapter 2 Tempering An Artist's Rage Added Mon Dec 10 22:13:40 2007 at level 27:Idril has pondered for days in her pursuit of what she believes is the insanely fevered and frantic. those misled by magic or those easily swayed by cruelty for it's own sake in the name of higher beings ARE one in the same in her mind. Divisions once formed are slowly melding. The clergy, as it has almost always been through time, have taken advantage of those who were unable to fend for themselves, knew no better or lived without means and training. In her mind, most, if not all, are as abhorrent as the magi they claim to be seperate from. She has tried to persuade to end the further damage still being done. Progress has not been made in her mind, but she sees her youth, as it is now, new and standing in the fire of a fresh forge, her impurities removed, waiting to be formed into the blade, the bludgeon, the arrow or spear that shall righteously crush the chest and pierce the heart of these vile and wretched creatures that give themselves willingly to demons and magic that demanded of them and they gave in free will. In most cases enthusiastically! Not so much as a hint of remorse for what their course and new powers gave them. More importantly, took forever from their very souls.
Let her music, mournful as it may be given the times, remind her. Let Ysaloerye's hammer and sure hand shape her into a useful tool true enough to strike into the belly of this beast and make it writhe in the same manner they have wrought on others, mage and priest alike. for the suffering they have brought into this world in the name of 'deliverance'. They will stand in the muck they have mired themselves in. In unyielding prophecies and unbending beliefs that find them mixed in the fickle inconsistencies of the bleak and narrow world they have created for themselves. But in these beams of pure black, looking up, One, with with eyes open and still see an idea brought to life, a brilliant ever changing light. That remains still an -idea-.Standing upon a greatly fortified hillock watched over by a single, fearless Giant sometimes flanked on either side by a "tougher than a granite boulder" Female Dwarven warrior, and a casual, yet dangerous and graceful half-elf, instrument and weapons comfortably across his back. Always mindful of the few he allows passage to call the small village of true warriors HOME.
(I hope that made sense.)

#17960, "Idril's Role Chapter 1"
|
RoleChapter 1 Rites and Loss. Added Sun Dec 30 20:36:31 2007 at level 44:Pride filled Idril, perhaps more than it ever had. Her rage had been focused to the single goal of a good showing. Proof to her bretheren that she wasn't just the cynical drunk that they had seen since the day she built her hut. Cezar and Harol had been her moral guides and Sananto had himself taken a great interest in her training and it showed. Placing did not matter. The praise from her goddess Ysaloerye had been more than enough for her and to her three brothers her thanks and admiration ran deep. She more than anything else began to feel as if she had made some way in attonement for her past transgressions and was being allowed to heal.
Philisrhynga was another blow, the Village had seemed more a force when they fought side by side wether victorious or through wild tactical blunder, there was no quarter given nor asked, which redoubled her resolve to protect her brothers and sister more than ever. It was through her that Idril finally felt she was worthy to approach the Paragon. Soon she would embark to find the holy place.
Perhaps the only thing that weighed upon her was her inability to produce anything since the sarcastic, but unwell thought out response to the laughable propaganda sent to all corners of Thera by the empire and their brainwashed citizenry. She had taken her knocks for that, but one does not curl up and fall apart for setback. Still she got a chuckle from it. If nothing else she could look back upon it and help pull herself up by the bootstraps.
Idril now looks forward to the future. The Village is ripe with Defenders and she has made it her goal to invigorate their drive and purpose. The role of defender has long gone unappreciated by all except perhaps the new Commander who sees the danger and deep usefulness of them. Everyone should recognize them as he does and she will see to their future as she can. Not just one of self sacrifice in the battle to weaken and, with hope, one day destory magic, but that the front line of the war is as much theirs as the berserkers they protect.
