Marbeliel the High Wizard of the Arcane, Initiate of the Jaguar
DescriptionSix feet, four inches tall, pointy ears, fine blonde hair, high cheekbones, and a somewhat haughty air about him...yep, he's an elf. Though thin, the golden hair is long, and pulled together at the back with what looks like an expensive clip, a rare stone of some sort, perhaps sapphire, perhaps azure, hard to tell without closer examination. The hands are long with what some might call delicate fingers, and neatly groomed nails. The clothing is all of high quality, though perhaps somewhat mismatched. Almost as if he were more concerned with other things when he donned them, rather than taking the time to look closely. Otherwise you see no distinctive marks, the usual boots and pants and shirt and some minor decorations, and a few bulges around his body, likely purses and other personal equipment. What is eminent clear about him though, is that when you look at him you see that

RoleChapter 3 History and a start Added Thu Aug 9 18:31:36 2007 at level 11:"If that's all you want, then by Andaren that's all you'll get!" shouted the usually composed King Felrendendiral. "From now on you are no longer my son! Your brother Bolisensaviran, not you, is now my heir. You will be accorded no greater status than a guardsmen. Fight for your food, and do not come back to me with regret!" Red faced and breathless Felrendendiral sat back down, his unusually un-elflike outburst having spent his energy, and leaving only a sullen and dejected father. Arisictesiar, head held high, nodded, then remembering his new status performed a more proper bow as would be expected from one of his station. Emotions held in check he stood upright once more, turned and left the throne room.
Things had never been easy for Ari, as he was known to those close to him. As the first born he was expected to follow his father's footsteps, and rule Darsylon and the elves of that kingdom. But unlike his father, who was the fourth in what would later be called the third dynasty, he believed that merely maintaining a secluded and peaceful existence was no longer sufficient. His people, indeed all people of the light, needed to become more proactive. The Lord Captain, skilled as he was at tactics, was provincial in mindset, and had no head for strategy or long-term goals, or at least long-term as the elves saw it. Only elves, living centuries and often a millenium at a time, could see the long picture, and it burned Ari to the core that the rest of his family and peers would not see what was plain to him, that the darkness was encroaching and the elves, as the eldest and most important (of course) of races must take the lead in fighting back. Simply living a defensive existence was going to become a recipe for extinction.
But his words fell on deaf ears, culminating in the explosion just now with his father. Time after time he had exhorted his father to expand the guards to a real army, to send more missions to other light-embracing peoples, the storm giants, the dwarves, and even to try persuading those who seemed able to embrace either light or dark, the cloud giants, the humans, the poor poor felars, generally to do anything and everything in his power to start pushing back. To no avail. The elves were nothing if not consistent, and what had been good enough for countless years would remain good enough for countless more.
And so Ari left his royal quarters, moving into the barracks. Being who he was, in training if no longer in title, he was given an officer's position immediately, but still it was a far cry from his previous existence. For over six hundred years he remained in the guard, the last two hundred and fifty of which he served as the Lord Captain, chief military advisor to his brother Bolisensaviran, by then king. He was never able to convince him, just as he could not convince his father. But he did marry, and have a son. He taught his son everything he knew, and raised him to believe as he did. He in turn married and had a daughter, who in turn married and had two sons, the second of whom, Turendiel, met and married Areldevia, and together they had Marbeliel.
Marbeliel was raised as had been his forbears, with the same zeal to bring the fight to greater ther

RoleChapter 2 Adult life Added Fri Aug 24 17:27:51 2007 at level 44:As time has progressed, Marbeliel has had some small achievements but mostly feels unsuccessful and unlucky. Not for lack of effort, and not enough to dissuade him from his path. But the total silence from the Lady Baerinka has been demoralizing. And his failure to find sources of magic to better defend himself has hampered his ability to seek and destroy the darkness. Nonetheless, the acceptance into the fortress and his growing comraderie with some has dampened those blemishes and he is convinced he can make more of his life. It will not be from a lack of faith. On a more specific topic, he had a few short conversations with villagers of supposedly goodly beliefs, including one of the eldest, Teutonium. It is most distressing to hear how deluded one of his own people might become, and he is struggling with the thought that he will likely one day find himself fighting someone so misguided. He has not resolved this, but he will do whatever he may to avoid such confrontations. Better to take the hit to his pride and run from a fight than to kill one of the light, misguided though they may be. It may happen despite his best efforts, but that will be for the gods to decide. He will do all he can to avoid it. Finally, he has returned several times to his home, Darsylon, and now openly bears the family signet ring. He has no aspirations to join the political fray there, as they are still of the complacent and defensive mind, but he no longer feels the need to seem apart from the House.

RoleChapter 1 Meeting the Lady Added Sat Sep 1 12:46:47 2007 at level 51:After hundreds of years and much consternation, a great day dawned this day, the Day of Deception, 16th of the month of the Long Shadows. It is fitting to be the middle of the month, as today can be a turning point. Today I was finally able to meet with the Lady Baerinika in person. It was nothing like what I thought it would be, and still it was as though pure mithril had been sewn into my spine, strengthening everything in body and soul. She did not spend much time elaborating on the teachings of the Jaguar (it is perhaps a small conceit to hope that that was because after so many years living as I thought in accordance with her teachings, she did not see the need), but rather asked a bit of me personally. She expressed the importance of battle tested Jaguars, knowing of tactics, and so I relayed my most recent experience, one of my finer moments, when I found the orc chieftain Smuerlk and the black Satebos, a mage of death, in Barovia together. I decided to take their measure and but an hour or two later, both lay dead. Though I take no joy in death, it was nonetheless satisfying. The orc, a twisted mockery of we the eldest, was particularly unhappy. I cannot say I sympathized. He has rejected all calls for redemption and been the cause of many goodly folks' deaths. The talk with the Lady was not terribly long, but it was inspiring, and it has renewed my determination. I will earn her favor, and I will do so as I fight the darkness that plagues thera. The sun has risen again and the Jaguars prowl the earth.
