Garrakor the Legend of the Battlefield
DescriptionA mountain of muscle stands before you, there is no better way to describe it. Easily standing over fifteen feet tall, you find it hard not to stare at him. He wears only a vest and bracers on his upper body, leaving his tightly muscled arms bare. You notice a large K branded on his right arm and the skin around it is heavily scarred with knife wounds, almost as if someone unsuccessfully tried to carve it from his arm. A seemingly perpetually furrowed brow hangs ominously over sparkling blue eyes, giving his visage a stern yet appealing glower. Apart from a neatly trimmed goatee, there seems to be no other visible hair on his body. Skin the color of aquamarine contrasts sharply with the dark armor that he wears. He carries very few belongings, the most notable of which are two large swords strapped across his back.

|
RoleChapter 8 Beginnings Added Mon Nov 20 17:51:41 2006 at level 1:Garrakor Garum was born in a small village beneath the Aryth. His father worked as a cartographer and took many long trips charting the depths of Theras oceans. These trips would sometimes keep Garrakors father abroad for months at a time. As he grew older, Garrakor would incessantly ask his father if he could accompany him on one of these trips, only to be told each time that he was too young. When his father was home, he would teach Garrakor the intricacies of making detailed maps and the tedious process of scouting and re-scouting the ocean floor. He explained the many dangers of the open sea, such as inescapable vortexes, strong underwater currents, dangerous creatures and the ever-present chance of losing all sense of direction. Garrakor would listen to his father intently during these sessions, yearning for a chance to prove his independence.
On his twentieth birthday, Garrakors father told him that he would be coming along on the next charting expedition. The preparation period passed, and the party was assembled. Led by Garrakors father, the party consisted of three other giants and Garrakor. The other giants were all considerably older and more experienced than Garrakor, and he felt privileged to be the youngest member of the expedition. The goal of this particular journey was to map a series of underwater caves and trenches in the Far East section of the Aryth. While not a particularly dangerous section of the ocean, the area was known to have volcanic activity nearby.
After several weeks of traveling, the party finally reached its destination and set up camp. The days were long, but Garrakor found that he enjoyed scouting out on his own. He spent many hours searching the caves and rifts of the volcano, fascinated by everything new that he found. After the scouting sessions, the party would reconvene to discuss and piece together what they had seen. This process went on without incident for several weeks.

RoleChapter 7 The Surface Added Mon Nov 20 17:53:20 2006 at level 1:One evening, the party was rudely awakened by a rumbling sound that resonated throughout the camp. Suddenly, a bright torrent of magma spurted from the ocean floor about one thousand yards from the giants camp. The sight enthralled Garrakor, but only momentarily because he felt the water around him beginning to heat up at an alarming rate. The older giants immediately realized the danger and Garrakors father ordered everyone to swim to the surface. Garrakor was the last to emerge from the water and climb up on the rough lava field. Not long after they had emerged, the water in the small cove began to boil rapidly.
Garrakor had never seen the surface before, and the lava field was certainly a sight to behold. Miles of black ripples resembled a pitch-black lake that one was able to walk on. Garrakor was even more fascinated by an enormous mountain spewing black smoke into the sky, contrasting sharply with hues of the sunrise. Garrakors father decided that the party should remain ashore until the water had cooled enough to re-enter. Only then would it be safe to return to the depths of the ocean.
The air was chilly, but soon the sun came up and the temperature began to rise. Garrakor was overwhelmed by all the new things he was experiencing. He was not used to breathing air, but soon became accustomed to it as the elder giants taught him to just relax and breathe like he normally would underwater. The sounds were clear and crisp, like nothing he had ever heard. Garrakor decided to take a walk around, but kept the camp in sight at all times. He found he was able to travel quite a distance from the camp, because the day was clear and nothing obstructed his view on the lava fields. He saw something green poking up through the hard rock, but just as he bent down to take a closer look a fireball exploded in the camp.

RoleChapter 6 Captured Added Mon Nov 20 17:57:21 2006 at level 1:Even from a distance, the heat was intense. Several giant figures began to fade into view in positions surrounding the camp. These new giants, while similar in size to Garrakors kin, were strikingly different. They were all dressed the same, fully clad in suits of black iron armor and all wielding huge axes. The attack caught the small party completely by surprise, and they were quickly overwhelmed. Garrakor began to sprint back towards the camp, watching helplessly as his father and the other three giants fought for their lives. Two of his kin were cut down quickly, leaving his father and another fighting back to back. Garrakor had almost reached his father, when he was struck in the head by a ball of ice. The pain was intense, like nothing he had ever felt. Bright spots flashed in his eyes as the ground quickly came up to meet him. Another iceball struck him in the legs, rendering them useless. He lay there and watched another ball of flame engulf his father and the other remaining party member. Then there was darkness.
He awoke to find himself shackled to a wall, feet dangling about three feet above the floor. His head was pounding and he could not feel his arms. The room was small and windowless, lit by a single torch on the wall. The door across from him creaked and then suddenly swung open, slamming into the wall behind it. Garrakor squinted as a large figure entered the room, and he recognized it as one of the giants who had attacked him earlier. You are lucky, the figure stated. I could have easily killed you, as I killed your friends. Unfortunately, it will not be that easy for you. The figure began to laugh maniacally as he pulled a wand from a pouch on his belt. Pointing the wand at Garrakors chest, the figure mumbled something and once again there was only darkness.

RoleChapter 5 Slavery Added Mon Nov 20 17:58:48 2006 at level 1:As they days passed, Garrakor was tortured without end. His captors, he learned, resided in the volcano that he had seen upon entering the surface. They were giants akin with fire, as his race was akin with water, and he was their slave. They marked him by branding a large K on his right shoulder. Because of his large size, he was required to do many tasks involving heavy lifting and hard labor. When he was too tired to work anymore, he was beaten until he passed out. When he awoke, he was immediately put to work. Garrakor did not mind the physical labor, it made him stronger and it kept him away from beatings and torture. Many months passed and the muscles on his arms and legs became knotted and well defined.
The torture was unbearable. There were some particularly nasty giants who were practiced in the use of magic. These battlemages would come and use Garrakor as a test subject for new wands, potions and spells. They would chain him to the wall and cast on him until he passed out, then force him to drink healing potions. Garrakor would refuse to drink the potions, trying to choose death as a release from the pain and misery, but the battlemages would simply laugh and force him to drink with a spell.
Having never been exposed to magic before, Garrakor was disgusted by everything he experienced. He was stricken with disease with the wave of a hand, poisoned with a magical brew, frozen in place by magical ice and burned with magical fire. But nothing was worse than the acid. The acid was the only thing that never completely healed. They would point a wand, and gobs of it would land on him and eat away. The healing potions would restore both flesh and skin, but large scars covered his torso, legs and arms. How he hated them. Anger burned inside of Garrakor, but he could do nothing about it. He wished only death upon them and himself, and swore that if the opportunity arose he would be quick to act upon his instincts.

RoleChapter 4 Escape Added Mon Nov 20 18:01:07 2006 at level 1:It was one of the rare occasions where the slaves were brought outside the volcano to do work. A wall was being built that would restrict outside access to one of the many entrances of the volcano. Garrakor and other large slaves were brought out because of the intense heavy lifting that the job required. It was a clear spring morning, the warm sun baking away any dampness the night had left behind. How Garrakor loved the sunlight! He turned his face upward and closed his eyes, breathing deep the fresh outdoor air. Anger welled inside him as he remembered his situation, and he seethed with hatred toward his captors and the evil magic they possessed.
The slaves worked through the midday, receiving no food and very little water. Garrakor did not tire, being used to such circumstances, and was fueled even more by his anger. He hoisted large stones on his shoulder as if they were mere pebbles and set them into place with ease. The routine calmed him a little, monotony slowly overcoming the burning desire to crush the head of a nearby guard with a well-placed throw.
The attack came without warning, a volley of arrows suddenly raining down all around the work area. Cries of alarm sounded as captors and slaves both ran for cover. The guards soon organized and hurled magical fire and ice into the surrounding forest. How he hated those sounds! Warriors dressed in all green began to emerge from the woods, firing arrow after arrow as they advanced. One particularly unlucky captor was struck in the chest by an arrow just as he was about to launch a fireball. Staring in horror at the wound, the fireball exploded around him and took out two other captors as well. Garrakor cried out with delight at that sight, and his anger finally boiled to the surface in the form of a primal scream. Before he knew what he was doing, he picked up a large rock in each hand and hurled them at the nearest guard. The first rock caught the guard square in the chest, making him step back a few paces. Enraged, but startled by the force of the blow, the guard looked up just in time to see the second rock smash him in the face.
Garrakor was in frenzy now and the work site was in chaos. Armor clad giants battled with the strange green warriors, and slaves ran and hid everywhere. Stupid troll and minotaur slaves were cowering anywhere they could find cover, but Garrakor was livid. He saw his opportunity. Continuing to scream, he was relentless in his attack. He grabbed the axe of a fallen captor and starting running. Three guards nearby saw him moving towards the forest and came forward to intercept. After years of torture and relentless beatings, Garrakor welcomed this fight. He swung his axe at the first giant, splitting its skull and burying the axe deep in the torso of the beast. The next giant in line, startled by the sheer power of the blow, hesitated for a split second. Garrakor ripped the axe from the first attacker and in the same motion swung it at the second, severing the head cleanly from its body. The third guard, Garrakor recognized as one of the battlemages that used him as a guinea pig on occasion. Enraged, he started to close the distance between the two. A lightning bolt hit him squarely in the chest, but it only slowed him for a moment. Stunned that his magic had not felled this s

RoleChapter 3 Scars Added Mon Nov 20 18:02:20 2006 at level 1:Adrenaline coursed through his veins as Garrakor ran through the forest. He felt no remorse for the guards he had killed and wished he could have stayed to finish off all of them. This was a foolish thought, he knew, because reinforcements would soon have poured out of the volcano and crushed the small band of green warriors. He was free, at least for the moment. His mind raced with thoughts of what to do and where to go. The only life he had ever known was beneath the sea and that of a slave. He did not know where to start looking or even where he was. Once he reached the ocean, he began to swim. For days he would swim, sleeping very little. The sleep that did come to him was filled with nightmares of being recaptured and enslaved once more.
Finally, he came to a fishing town. He was able to procure a large traveling cloak to cover his tattered clothes and ragged appearance. The sign on the gates of the dock read Hamash MuTazz and the market was bustling with activity. Garrakor wandered about aimlessly, speaking to no one and observing everything. He saw one of his kin enter the weaponsmith, and quickly followed. Having spoken very little during his time as a slave, the words sounded foreign to his own ears. It seems that this particular giant was employed at the Warrior guild located in the town. Taking pity on Garrakor, the giant offered a place for Garrakor to stay until he was able to find some course of action. So begins the legend of Garrakor Garum.
