#13995, "[SCION] Edimus Fraighn the Ill-Fated Dastard, Poet Laureate, Advisor to the Chancellor"
|
Edimus Fraighn the Ill-Fated Dastard, Poet Laureate, Advisor to the Chancellor
DescriptionHer expression sags in the manner of one weary from a thousand mile journey without sleep. But her movements are steady and his eyes tell another story. The expression on his face is not fatigue, but a despair both deep and profound. Even when she smiles, her raised eyebrows and rosey cheeks can only present a mockery of joy, for the look in her eyes never matches the act. Yet she is fit, her arms and legs posessing the firm and sinewy tone of a mature adventurer. She is somewhat ugly, with oddly mannish features. However, her complexion is smooth, her eyes are lusterous lusterous eyes and strong features. Her unkempt hair and rumpled, haphazard clothing do nothing to improve her looks. Her instruments are of varied quality, but they all have a rather unloved look to them.

RoleChapter 15 Background Story Added Wed Aug 9 16:40:16 2006 at level 1:Edimus Fraighn is the very picture of melancholy, and always has been. On the day of his birth he didn't cry, he mourned. From that accursed day onward, Edimus has led a life of manifest displeasure. As a small child, he rarely smiled, and when even the most minor of mishaps befell him, he'd bawl for hours. His parents were too busy with his ten younger and four older siblings to focus on his complaints. Not that it would've helped anyway, since being inconsolable was something of a specialty of his.
Still, he was fed and clothed adequately and never particularly mistreated, except occasionally by his elder brothers, but there's nothing unusual about that. In fact, his many siblings mostly left him alone, and treated him as well as they treated each other. He was excluded from playing with them fairly often, but they can hardly be blamed for that given his pentient saying precociously depressing things, or just wailing for uncontrollable wailing.
While his experience of childhood was sorrowful, his teenage years came as a particularly unpleasant surprise. As he grew older, he grew out of crying and into sullen moping. He became quite good at this, and for quite some time it was rare to see him doing anthing else. Why the sorrow that he felt as a child had advanced into misery even he didn't really understand, but as a cascade of insecurities and adolescent misadventures descended upon him, he fell quite readily into abject despair.
His despair isolated him and he took to walking alone for many hours. On one such walk he discovered existential angst, which he found suited him well. Indeed, like a paladin to self-righteousness (as he'd probably put it), it was the closest thing to a calling he would ever feel. And though he hadn't the capacity for such introspective and philosophical explorations as a child, his now blossoming young mind opened up to many ideas, none of them remotely cheerful or uplifting.
Instead, the philosophy that he found suited his mood was a sort of nihilism. If there were such a thing as dismal enthusiasm, that is the emotion with which he pounced upon the idea that all life is without purpose or reason. From there he concluded that all accomplishments are illusory or futile, that all morality is inherently vacuous, and that death's inevitable approach is the most gladsome thing a person can expect out of his existance. Even to this day it is these fundamental concepts that rule his thoughts.
Having begun this journey into emotional flagellation, his reaction was to begin writing poetry. To this practice he added the habit of leaving his work about for others to find. Now true misery doesn't actually love much of anything at all, but company still holds a certain appeal. Thus it was that Edimus found, not pleasure, but a certain bleak satisfaction in seeing his own malaise reflected in the expressions of others.
Of course, when he first started writing the poetry it garnered nothing but mockery and laughter. In response, he developed a habit of mockery himself, but instead of simple affrontery he found a more subtle method. He would participate in activities with others, pretending to be having fun. Then, as the activity went on, he'd become more and more animated in his exuberance until the other participants rea

RoleChapter 14 Reference/Key Words Added Wed Aug 9 16:41:28 2006 at level 1:Summary: A man permanently depressed about everything, who always sees the darkest side of everything and not only has no hope, but thinks hope itself is stupid. A nihilist, philosophically.
Align Evil: He's not especially violent or overtly cruel, but he does like sharing his misery with others. He could almost be neutral except for his total lack of respect for ethics, which means he does bad things. He has some sense of compassion, but it's rare that he judges anyone else's situation to be worse than his own, so usually he doesn't care what happens to anyone else.
Ethos Neutral: He thinks law is pointless, but just trying to break it down is just as pointless. Personality-wise he's more orderly in that he's somewhat predictable in his reactino to things, though he does sometimes enjoy causing confusion in others.
Sphere Envy: He doesn't feel or act overtly envious, but envy does influence his actions. It's why he tries to spend time around people with strong feelings (though those feelings disgust him). His conscious relationship to envy is that he thinks it's the most absurd thing in the world. After all, since there is no meaning or purpose to anything, it's just that much more senseless to care about what someone else has.
Human: He's not wild about being a human. There's something depressing about being the most commonplace race in the world.
Male: He's despaired of any woman liking him, and he scowls at displays of toughness, considering himself weak and ineffectual (though he's really as capable as any other bard).
Bard: He doesn't like music, but he's good at it, and it helps him to make others unhappy. He really shouldn't play the songs that are strongly focused on good feeling (Charismatic prelude, Adagio, Chant of resiliance, Anthem of Resistance, Bagatelle of Bravado and maybe Fantasia of Illusion), but I think I'll make the excuse that he plays them ironically (see background) and practice some of them anyway, since I'm not up to the task of playing a bard without Anthem of Resistance.
Religion: He has no particular religious beliefs, at least at the start. He has some appreciation of Muuloc's ideals, but he doesn't hasn't found any reason to bother worshipping.
Cabal: He seeks no cabal, but if someone invited him he'd probably shrug his shoulders and accept. If this happens, he'll probably be kicked out rapidly for failing to show interest in the cabal's goals.

RoleChapter 11 Scions and Sex Added Thu Oct 12 16:07:32 2006 at level 51:Edimus changed much since the last update. Before he was an independant man, now he is a Scion woman. One of these conditions was intentional, the other a mistake.
His transformation as a woman came, as most such transformations do, as a result eating sirine grapes. He purchased some grapes with the intention of tricking others into eating them. However, he ran low on food and was near the farm outside of balator where grapes can be found. He placed the grapes in his backpack, and the next time he was hungry thought to eat some grapes. Unfortunately, despite making an effort to be sure he was eating the right ones, he managed to eat the sirine grapes.
Most people would be upset, and of course, Edimus is unhappy with this change. Yet to him it is ultimately just one more misfortune amidst a lifetime of tragic events. Eventually he will grow accustomed to his new body, and indeed his personality may change. He may even take to calling himself Edimuselle. For the present, however, he is not comfortable with his body or anything else having to do with the change and this is reflected in his behavior. As for the grapes, his interest in getting others to eat them is slightly enhanced now that he's fallen victim to them
The other change, that of induction into the Fold is potentially further reaching. So far, little has come of it for him but death. On his first eve the scepter was taken and he expended much time and blood in an effort to recover the scepter. He did this to prove his dedication, but he does not intend to throw away his life quite so haphazardly in the future. Not because he values his life anymore than he ever has, but because now he has a goal to reach. While still eager to see oblivion for himself, his desire to see the world lieing in ruin brings just a vestige of self-preservation where there had been little before.
As the corrupting forces of dark magic work on his spirit, he will become more ominous and speech, and more prone to lieing. Presently he speaks tragically and depressingly, but does not try to incite fear. His tendency towards brutal honesty about his own shortcoming will abate some, though he will continue to use it as a way to offfbalance his foes. Few expect the attitude he expresses and it has brought him advantages in the past.
His not-quite-friendships with the village are a thing of the past, and to Edimus this is just what one is to expect out of life.

RoleChapter 3 Update: Eshval, Advisor, Plans Added Wed Jan 24 13:19:05 2007 at level 51:A lot has happened to Edimus since the last update. She has become Advisor, gotten a bunch of con (thanks) and done a bunch of stuff. She's going to try reviving her old plans for world destruction (muahaha), though she doesn't expect Kanaev to be too interested.
She's spoken with Eshval a lot recently, which is hard since Eshval is a reminder that she couldn't let go of her life, even though she hates it. Around Eshval, she always feels awkward, ugly and stupid. She carries a constant fear that at any moment Eshval will realize how worthless Edimus is and curse her somehow. At the same time, she feels inexplicably drawn the vampyre queen. In other words, Edimus feels conflicted around Eshval.
Eshval told her to preserve her life some, and though that request is at odds with what she wants, her fear of Eshval means she has been playing it somewhat safer. Though there are still times when she rushes headlong into dangerous situations, relishing the approach of oblivion.
OOC, I want to make things interesting for the other scions by sparking up more prophecy stuff than has been happening, find solid characters to recommend. I'm trying to play for a minimum of a couple hours every other day. I've been fortunate to have more time to play lately, so hopefully this will continue until Edimus's eventual con death (or age death if I suddenly become supa-leet and cautious). I also want to find an excuse to talk to other cabal leaders more, since I like knowing my enemies, but I haven't thought of any good reason Edimus would care to do that. Also, I owe Eshval a more complimentary work, but sincere compliments are very hard to work into Edimus's role and I haven't thought of any good angle to do that.

RoleChapter 1 Edges, The Future and stuff Added Thu Feb 15 21:29:27 2007 at level 51:I took some edges. I wanted to avoid the fiend one because I'm already too reliant on that, but I ran out of other options.
My goals for the moment: Take more risks, politically. So far I've been cautious. Too bad Arcibu I took some edges. I wanted to avoid the fiend one because I'm already too reliant on that, but I ran out of other options. And besides, it's not like I'm already too deadly or anything. I tried to pick edges that make good role sense. Librarian because I'm a scion, Stoneheard because well, that's Edimus I took some edges. I wanted to avoid the fiend one because I'm already too reliant on that, but I ran out of other options. And besides, it's not like I'm already too deadly or anything. I tried to pick edges that make good role sense. Librarian because I'm a scion, Stoneheard because well, that's Edimus all over. The knell one because requiem is Edimus's favorite song.
I had so many edge picks I ran out, so some like scrutiny are just blah as far as role goes, but oh well.
Here are my goals for the moment:
*Log in more I haven't logged in enough recently.
*Take more risks, politically. So far I've been cautious. Too bad Arcibu decided not to join or I could take a risk on him. I'll have to figure this out. I like Kanaev, but I should pick a fight with him or something.
*whine a little less. I'm not as whiney as some but I've done too much complaining about people not being sporstmanlike. Whether I'm right or not, it's just stupid to complain. If anyone sees me say stupid crap feel free to smite me as a reminder.
*Write more stuff I haven't written anything in a while. I should.
*Do Prophecy stuff I need to log in more for this to work, but I want to get other scions interested in some spooky night stuff. I love running around fighting people, but I feel like I'm missing out on the Scion plotline and that's pretty much my own fault for not doing it.
*Stay alive Keep fighting the way that I enjoy, but be a little more cautious.
