Chapter 7

She was the most beautiful dwarven lass in Akan. Beard as thick as mountain
snow, skin as red as the setting sun, and could swing an axe like no Weald
lumberjack could ever dream of. Her name was Hilga, and Hrudgir and Grudhir
Hirsget were in love with her, the both of them. They would pace the walls of
Akan in their spiked whitesteel armor, talking of her beauty, her wit, and
her strength. And her smell! She smelled of the finest Ale, a perfume recipe
specially forumulated by Arkat with his knoweldge of herbs and distillation.
Neither had the beard to ask her out though, and the wagers started small.
Four silver to ask her out. Five. A cask of Arkat's finest. A block of
mithril and a flask of the finest whiskey. As time went on, the brothers
wagers grew wilder. They would spend their evenings after shift in the
Whispering Wind Inn, drunk and dreaming of Hilga. How would she be wooed? And
then one day....

The Minstrel was your typical elven bard. Full of himself, smelling of
flowers and speaking like a dandy. He played in the square, and the younger
dwarves listened and danced as their parents rolled their eyes. Hrudgir and
Grudhir got off shift and stood about, listening and snickering at the
foppish elf. Another dwarf was watching though. As the sun set, and the
brothers wandered off for a glass of whiskey, Hilga approached the Minstrel,
and they began to talk...

The next day, the Elf left Akan, and Hilga stood on the walls watching him
go, tears streaming down her face into his beard. The brothers were furious,
but! They had figured out their strategy. She liked fellows who smelled well
and spoke with refinement! A new wager was born. The first to take a bath
would most likely have Hilga's hand, and the loser would life a life of
cleanliness from hence forth.

Hrudgir lost, and Grudhir has many fat children.

Chapter 6

Here is the character concept in a nutshell, since my first role entry didn't
explain it clearly I guess. I like rping dwarves. I like rping paladins. I've
always wanted a dwarven paladin, but could never figure out a way to really
rp a paladin (badass boyscout) and still be a dwarf. One of the prominent
things in the dwarf helpfile is dwarven oathes being iron. The idea for this
character is that he doesn't particularly want to be a paladin, but swore he
would. Thus, he isn't artificially undwarfy, but is still a paladin. Thus
sphere purity. He wishes he could still whore and drink and carouse, but
since he mage the wager with his brother he can't. It was a way to reconcile
dwarfiness with paladinliness without an overly melodramatic role. Nearly
every Dwarven Paladin role I have considered before would have been better as
a shaman in the end, besides this one.

Chapter 5

Hrudgir's nephews name is Hargel, and it is one of his great joys to visit
him in Akan. His brothers family with Hilga makes Hrudgir happy, in the
absence of him having a normal dwarven life. That said, he has begun to enjoy
the life of a Paladin. He joined the fortress after having retrieved the orb
at the 21st rank. The touch of the orb felt like the purest mithril to
Hrudgir, and after much pondering and consultation with his Goddess and the
elders of the Fortress, he decided that joining the fortress was something
his Oath bound him to do. Thus far, he has enjoyed his Squireship, and has
become more aggressive in hunting the wicked since he took the mantle. He
takes the Creed of the Maran as seriously as he takes the Code of the
Paladin's, and tries to live each fully, though sometimes they come into
confilct with one another.

Hrudgir misses the taste of Ale as much as ever, but besides that, he is much
more comfortable in his assumed role than he was when he was younger.

Chapter 4

Hrudgir is deeply frustrated recently. At every turn he sees Nexuns
assaulting the fortress, and hunting those in it. Neutral outlanders hunting
him and dying to his blades. Outlanders of the Light slaying dwarves and
conjurers of the fortress. This has caused a certain hardening in him. His
humor is darker than it once was, and he now holds the Creed in just as much
esteem as the Code, though he followed both before. The needlessness of this
fighting cuts him to the quick, but the longer the nexans and outlanders
assault him, the less he cares for sparing them the blade.

Chapter 3

Hrudgir was made Captain, and filled with dread. He had finally become
comfortable with his role as a Maran and a Paladin, and had a third Oath on
his shoulders, to lead the FOrtress from the heart and as well as he could.
No longer could he merely smite the wicked and act with purity in his own
actions. The first rule of the Paladin code had merely been a guide for his
own actions before. Fulfill his Oaths as Paladin and Maran, and he was living
up to the first rule of the Code well enough. Now, he had to be one of the
voices of the Fortress, rather than merely a sword. Hrudgir's strong suit has
never been intelligence, and he grew worried.

One day Aldran the conjurer was slain by Naarai, a lightwalking outlander.
Aldran was incensed, and attempted to incite other Squires to hunt the
outlander down with him. Naturally, Hrudgir would not stand for this, but he
gave Aldran one more opportunity to mend his ways, and cease his blasphemies.
Mortals do not determine the moral worth of people in Thera. That is the
purview of the Gods, and they reveal their judgement via the Auras that
mortals can see. Aldran continued to preach his secular view of morality, and
Hrudgir felt he had no choice but to cast Aldran from the Fortress. This all
happened quickly after Hrudgir was made Captain, but this incident solidified
his resolve. He could not fulfill his three Oaths if such poisonous
philosophies were allowed to exist within the Fortress, and he can best take
care of such problems with his current position as Captain. That said,
casting Aldran out was no easy task for Hrudgir, and to one degree or another
weighs heavily on his heart.

The wide eyed former Akan guardsmen is far in Hrudgir's past now, and though
he remembers those times fondly he speaks of them less, and feels his Oaths
are blessings now, rather than burdens. He is where he belongs.

Chapter 2

Hrudgir gave up drink as part of his first Oath. Baerinika eventually noted
to him that he was living as a Dwarf, but in a different way, and perhaps
would inspire other Dwarves to take up such alternate paths. Taking her words
to heart, he had a missive sent to all Therans speaking of his abstinance
from drink, explaining some benefits and virtues of it, and suggesting ways
that such a burden could be more easily borne by Dwarven kind. The Bawdy Old
Biddy of War, Ysaloeyre was incensed at Hrudgir's missive and sent her own,
decrying Hrudgir's ways and urging Dwarven kind to ignore him. In the course
of it, she insulted his Beard, and in Hrudgir's feeling his whole family with
it. Is there any other measure of a Dwarven bloodline but the Beards their
kin grow?

In response, after asking Baerinika's permission, he has challanged her to a
duel.

The outcome is to be determined....

Chapter 1

Hrudgir had his duel with Ysaloeyre, and it went better than expected, though
of course he was slain. She seemed happy with his courage and dedication,
however, and agreed to bring some ale to Hargel, Hrdugir's nephew.

Which brings us too....

The fortress was assaulted by the Court of the Nightborn, ancient demonic
evil wielding forgotten magic, fell and powerful. After a long string of dire
combats, the last of the Nightborn came, a fallen Paladin, evil to the core.
She stood at the gates of the Fortress, calling for a Champion of the light
to face her in single combat. Hrudgir steeled his nerves and strode forth. He
was slain, and in the chaotic after math (mortal Therans, hearing of the war
at the Fortress's gates flocked there) obtainted the backpack of Edimus,
advisor to the Chasm. Hrudgir's mind was completely drained, and he was
starving after a series of battles, so he ate some of the grapes within.

He is now a she, and rather annoyed about it. How can she be Hargel's uncle
as a she? He loves his nephew more than life itself, and despite his own
abstinance wants nothing more than for his Nephew to grow up to be a proper
dwarf. His brother and sister-in-law have quiet lives in Akan now, so the
responsibility is on Hrudgir's shoulders to provide Hargel with inspiration
beyond familial love. He cannot bear the thought of his nephew's confusion at
his sudden change of gender, and thus cannot return to his families house
until it has been set right. This quest is now as important to Hrudgir as his
Oaths, though he will not neglect his Oathed duties for his personal quest.
