Adhelard the Maran, Victorious Giant in Black
DescriptionA mane of damp black hair and beard surround this dark, blue- hued face. He stares with pale, silver eyes that light with pride and determination. His hands are wide and heavily calloused, but despite their size and obvious power move with studied grace. He wears a long black woolen cloak. Silver thread is worked into the seams, patterned like a series of interlocked winged phoenixes. As you draw nearer, you catch sight of twin sword hilts peering from behind either shoulder, their hilts stained with sweat and blood.

RoleChapter 1 A new path: Honor Added Tue Aug 8 00:42:21 2006 at level 51:A new path: Honor
Adhelard met with Landren soon after Landren was knighted by the blade of the Great Lord Shokai. Landren now wields this blade. Inspired by the courage of Landren, Adhelard was driven even further as he watched Landren face certain doom fighting alone against the Scion's greatest champion, in the form of a dire displacer beast. Never before had Adhelard seen a spiritual victory when the body had failed.
Well, never since Adhelard was a young man, and took up the black.
Adhelard now wears the golden armor from Jaragh, and will follow the ways of the ancient Knights of Thera. He will strike his foes honorably, unless the Fortress is assaulted, or if he assaults an enemy's place of power. And even in those circumstances, he'll fight at odds within reason.
Understand, this is not the way of the Honorbound, but of the Knights of Thera.

RoleChapter 3 Laid To Rest Added Mon Jan 23 23:39:42 2006 at level 35:Once granted the honour of Squirehood, Adhelard made a pilgrimage to the top of the Great Mountain, where Silver light shone amid vast shadow: the Great Lord Shokai's Shrine. Adhelard carried his father's sword wrapped in silk and oilskin, to keep the blade keen and free of rust. Upon reaching the Moutain's peak, he stood before Sune Rai and knelt in prayer for no less than three days. On the fourth day, Adhelard stood and took his father's sword in both hands. He dug a shallow pit, not too deep so that it may reach the Light, and then he lay the sword into its final resting place, still bound in silk and cloth.
Adhelard was a Squire now, a man. His father would need the blade more than he, for Adhelard unwaveringly believes his father trains eternally in the Azure Fields.

RoleChapter 4 Background and Motivations Added Mon Jan 16 22:42:12 2006 at level 29:His father was cut down in the streets of Voralian City.
At the time, his father wore the gray cloak of the Maran and dedicated his life to pursuing a world of peace and Light. He thought Voralian would be that world, when Voralian was only an idea - a concept of a Free City dedicated to the Light and protected by the Great Lord's greatest warriors. So he made his home there, carried his blade to protect the idea of Voralian, then raised it to defend the Silver City after it was built.
Adhelard was born there in Voralian, and grew beneath the tutelage of his father and mother in the ways of the Maran and the Great Lord.
Voralian was a true City of Light in those early days, until the reign of the Blood Tribunal. At first noble men served the Tribunal, righteous men that fought side by side with Adhelard's father to protect the City from shadow. But then the Tribunal sent a dark mage to walk the streets of the Silver City. A necromancer. This mage did not see the City as a place of Light, but rather a place to gain wealth and power, and turned a blind eye as shadow slowly crept into the once-great city.
Adhelard's father could not stand idly by as the dream that was Voralian slowly slipped into obscurity. He carried his sword to the Tribunal Altar and challenged the necromancer there, and with one swift blow, smote the dark magus down and sent his soul to Rebirth within the Silver Flame. But the people of Voralian did not look favorably upon Adhelard's father. They cursed his name, called him a bandit, lawless, criminal. Criminal! Lifting stones, the people set upon the noble giant, cutting him down in the open streets of the "Silver City."
Adhelard was young, but old enough to wield a blade. He saw where his father fell. The city folk left it in the streets as a reminder to other "criminals." Kneeling beside this man, Adhelard wept. And when he could no longer weep, he stared at his father's gray cloak, now run red with blood. And his father's blade, still sheathed because the older man had refused to wield it against the "good" cityfolk that had cut him down.
And now, Adhelard felt purpose.
He stood, and reached down to take his father's blade, and belted it at his waist. He stood again, and reached down again to take his father's body in his arms and carried him through the city streets. The cityfolk stared, mouths agape, but none stood to block Adhelard's path. He passed them all, passed the city walls, passed the gate guardsmen, into the fields northwest of the once-great City. And there he buried his father, still covered in his cloak of righteous gray.
Yes, Adhelard would wear black. He would wear black until the people were truly free and no longer served the will of shadow. And though his mother pled for him to stay, Adhelard knew that Voralian was no longer his home, for there was much work to be done, and too little time to do it.
