Krynna Krysss the Unbound One, Nightreaver of Thar-Eris

Chapter 7

You are denied access.
t of the Underdark, Krynna was one of Aran'girdian
slaves bred to serve as workers, guardians, or spies. From her very childhood
she was treated like an animal, and a dangerous one. She was the strongest in
the pack and the only one who managed to survive all the beatings and
'trainings' till the age of 12 when she was sold to drow slavers as a potential
gladiator for their bloody arenas. Luckily for her, new masters greatly
underestimated her strength and craftiness, and on the way to to TethAzeleth
she managed to escape from her cage by attacking her neighbour slaves and
tricking the drow guard to enter the cage in such a cruel way. The taste of
drow blood was sweet but not as satisfying as the blood of her former
duergarian masters.

Surprisingly, she managed to survive in the caves and caverns of Underdark
where her animal instincts in combination with ability to withstand misery
and endure pain came in handy. In addition, she managed to find a lot in
common with natural inhibitors of this place, building almost unnatural
empathy link with bears, wolves, snakes and spiders. They've accepted her
as one of them, and the most dangerous one. Together they hunted her former
masters and each of them had something of that: blood and flesh for animals,
bitter-sweet taste of revenge for her. The Scourge of the Underdark she was
named in some time by the caravans between TethAzeleth and Aran'gird,
and for a good reason.

No need to say that years of life spent in the caverns made her very distant
from so called 'civilisation' of Thera. And as the only fruits of civilisation
she has ever tasted were slavery and trickery, her hostility to it comes pretty
natural.

Having spent much time interacting only with animals, insects, and reptiles,
Krynna has almost forgotten the sound of human speech, and her words are
full of hissing, roaring, and barking. That makes her hard to understand
sometimes, but not like she cares.

Chapter 6

Krynna is happy.

After spending some time among those who inhabit the surface of Thar-Eris,
she realised that the hunt is a way easier and the prey is a way less cautious
and a way more numerous. Good food, fresh water, sweet air - everything
that she needs is here. After all these years she no longer felt constantly
chased and hated.

Huge forests and endless plains, high peaks and deep waters of Thar-Eris. So
many places to travel about, so many things to look at, so many animals to
get familiar with

But with knowledge comes both happiness and suffering.

On the bright side, Krysss realised that there are people who share her ideals.
Those who hate slavery. Those who hate civilisation. Those who hear voices
in the wind and in the water. And so she was happy to join them. To hunt
alongside with them. To learn from them. To bring Chaos and breed creation.

On the dark side, she realised that there are those who consider her an enemy
for no obvious reason They called her tainted. Why? - she asked them. But
instead of answer she was attacked. She told them they know nothing of her
or her life. But they did not listen And so the way begun.

They live high in the mountains, and so Krysss made this place her hunting
grounds. Very comfortable hunting grounds as she found out. As many of
those who she hates come there. Those who follow the Codes, those who
fight for Empire, those who brings unnatural to the world. Duergars, dark
elves, dwarves, minotaurs.

In this war she learns, learns from the best hunters of the Ancients. And she
grows stronger and wiser every day with every conflict. She seeks answers in
the wind.

Yes, Krynna is happy.

Chapter 5

Name: ut that sometimes it not only spear that
can solve her problems, but tongue can be more effective in many ways as
well. Trickery, flattery, and deception used in right proportions allowed her
to make hunt a way more easy in many cases. And, in addition, in many
cases it was an enjoyable experience.

Some call Krysss brave, but it is not bravery but providence that makes a
good hunter.
Some call Krysss cowardly, but it is not cowardice but caution that leads to
success and longevity.
Some call Krysss honourable, but it is not honour but lack of desire to breed
unnecessary hate for the things she does not really need.
Some call Krysss dishonest, but surprise is the key to victory.

What all of them fail to understand that Krysss is unpredictable and fickle as
autumn weather. The real child of Chaos. Her behaviour is not limited by any
codes and not bound by any laws. She behaves like she feels is better for her
at any given moment. Her only real limitations are her hate and vengeance.
But the way she is going to fulfil them is not something that even she knows
beforehand. Follow the wind, swim with the current - that is her motto.

Chapter 4

Years and years of hunt have passed
After the death of Red Wind, Krynna has been chosen as the pack leader of
Nightreavers. And, as it became clear pretty soon, she was born during
challenging and interesting times. One can literally smell the scent of Blood
and Chaos in the air. New conflicts are bred like forest fires, and the earth is
covered with fresh blood and rotting corpses. Magic seems to go wild, and no
spell book seems to be as reliable as it was before. Armies of dwarves and
duergars seem to leave their cursed mines and march towards the Tree.
Challenging times, indeed.

During these times the role of pack leader seems to be more important then
ever. And Krysss is doing her best to keep the pack united and prepared for
anything. She teaches that only in unity Thar-Eris can prevail. She teaches
her pack that it is a good time to breed Chaos and plant Hate in enemies. She
teaches them that personal hunts must not be on the way of Big Hunt, and
sometimes the hunter must sacrifice his own hunt for the Dream to come.

Using her claws as well as her wits she is trying to poison the mind of her
enemies, breeding hate between Imperials and Tribunals, between dwarves
and elves, between those who walk in Light and those of Balanced path.

How will it work out? Noone knows.

Chapter 1

The awakening . . .

With each new moon, with each new day it is getting harder and harder for
Krys. Her old bones are aching. Each muscle is filled with weariness and
fatigue. Each sinew is begging for a long rest. Yes, her time is near. Her body
is giving up, and it is getting harder and harder to do even those things that
were always a pleasure: long run, patient waiting, sudden strike, death cry of
unsuspecting prey, taste of blood in her mouth, bitter-sweet smell of decay . . .

She opens her eyes slowly. Comforting darkness surrounds her. Where is
she? It takes some time to recall . . . Ah, inside a small cave she found near the
roots of the Tree. Her personal quarters, as to say. Too dark and dump for
others, but it certainly feels like home. And in time, this place will become
her grave as well. And this body, the damned cell of her spirit, will serve as
food for new stronger weeds.

She looks all around. Her gaze stops for a moment on the pile of armor and
weapons lying in the far corner of the cave. No, no more of those. These
trinkets served well in her hunt, but now they only burden and tire her. She
can hardly find strength to wield weapons she made herself. May be it is a
good time to take all of it to the surface, to the hollows, where cubs will find
it and play with it, and where older ones will use it for their hunt. Yes, it is
probably a good time for that.

Today, Yes, today she will climb to the highest branch of the Tree for the last
time. With a long howl she will call her pack for the last meeting. For the last
meeting with her as with Nightreaver of Thar-Eris. Her time has come, the
time to step down and let those stronger and more vicious to lead the pack.
She is too old for that. She wants to be remembered as strong as she was in
her best years. She wants law dogs and slavers to shiver at the sound of her
name. She wants them to scare their children with the tales of her hunt. She
wants to remain a legend. And for that to happen she must find strength for
this last deed.

She closes her eyes again. Faces, voices and names . . . So many of them . . . So
many of them are forgotten for good. So many of them are already a legend.
Nrei. Aeria. Jhessar. Orau. Thaenian. So many of them. And so many new
faces around.

She smiles to herself silently. She kept the promise she gave to the previous
Nightreaver. There are two strong hunters in pack whom she is sure in.
Dizrug and Nefla. Tough choice. She observed them, she learned them and
from them. And now she will gladly watch one of them becoming new
Nightreaver. Who will it be? We will see. Only the strongest and the smartest
can lead the pack. These are the ways of Nightreaver.

She thinks of other branches of the Tree. Strong as well now. Stronger then
they were for many moons. But her branch is still the strongest. Well done,
Krys.

And what about you, Krys? You will just watch. The time has come to
prepare yourself for the Eternal Hunt. The time has come to concentrate on
your memories. The time has come to teach those who want to listen. Yes,
the time has come. You are no longer a hunter. You are a teacher and a
defender.

And may you find comfort and tranquillity in the sound of the wind, water,
and trees. M
