Chapter 2

Lucan's outlook on life has been slowly changing. Whereas once he worshipped
all of the fortress and other paladins, with the legendary ones of old being
his ideal, he has come to recognize the fallibility of mortals, even within
the fortress. This has made him further consider his own imperfection, but
this has only strengthened his faith. He see's the code, the creed of the
maran, remberance of the legendary warriors of the light, and the faith of
Aarn as seamless parts of a whole. Dedication, the Code and the Creed all
serve as reminders and bonds keeping a warrior of the light pure and focused,
in avoidance of the great danger of stepping too close to the darkness. The
Creed of the Maran, the Code, and Rage remind a warrior of the light that he
must fight from the heart, not from the mind. Self sacrifice, and swift death
must come from the heart, not from overthought indecision. Dedication, the
Code, and the creed focus such rage and emotion instantly, as if a paladin
holds them in his heart, the correct course of action is instantly apparent,
and his fury can be focused correctly instantaneously.

Though the legends of the light have led him to where he is, now he looks to
the Code, his religion, and the Creed as his driving principles, rather than
to the lives of the legends. He knows he cannot be Lariya or Solasarath or
Ulothyre or Balrahd, but thinks that he can come the closest to those ideals
by following his three guiding principles to the utmost, within the
constraints of his mortal, human imperfection.

It is in this way he hopes to be a true priest of Aarn, and a true paladin.

Role

Chapter 3

Lucan's childhood was wholesome and fulfilling. Lucan's father, Davan, had
been a squire of the Fortress of light until the age of forty, when he
retired to marry a homely but delightful server at the Inn of the eternal
star named Josepha. Several of the Maran took up a collection, and using that
and Josepha's savings, they opened a small tavern, called the Cup of Hope,
in Dagdan serving good home-cooked food and ale imported from Akan.
Adventurers on their way to brave the Dranetti wood would often stop at the
tavern and Davan was always willing to give them board for their tales. Lucan
grew up listening to these stories, and sometimes on feastdays Davan would
regale him with tales of the heroes of the Fortress and the knights before
them. Balrahd, Johan, Solasarath, Lariya, Jaedren and Jaragh were his idols
as a boy. Davan indulged his son's heroic aspirations, imparting upon him
what little martial knowledge he had with wooden practice swords in the
morning hours before Lucan helped his parents grind grain and milk the cows.
The night time was Lucan's favorite though. He would watch the Cup's door,
hoping some dashing elven ranger would come to stay for the night, with a
hammer wielding dwarven companion. Lucan kept these stories close to his
heart, and eventually when he came of age, practice sword in hand, his
parent's bid him a tearful farewell as me began the journey to the Academy of
The Templars in Voralian city.

Chapter 1

Lucan has fought the anti-paladin, Thamuz, for some time, and nearly always
been bested. Recently, he fought the fiend and after having clouded his sight
using the Templar's defense, he disarmed his unholy weapon. A young thief, of
the thirteenth rank, snatched it up, and after Thamuz had fled, Lucan offered
the thief coin to destroy the axe. This was both a betrayal of code, and
creed, and through this a betrayal of his faith, as Lucan is an adherent of
Dedication. He sought Aarn for divine retribution at first, but after a
conversation with Landren, Lucan has decided on what he feels is a suitable
pennance. He will no longer use any coinage. This is a two fold pennance, as
on the one hand he sought to use coin in a method that is sin, so he will
deny himself their use for ever after. On the other hand, this pennance
reinforces his dedication to the Code, as it is the absolute embodiment of
the second tenant of the Code.
