Chapter 1

Many a bard will tell stories of the life of Eusjouk Toksanjok. Alas, the
job falls to me to tell the beginning of his story. Eusj, as he likes his
friends to call him, defied the order of his elders of the north and struck
out in the world on his own. Though he was born to the great leaders of the
giant tribes in the north, Eusjouk decided that his life would be one of
mostly solitude. Eusjouk set it in his own heart that most of his life would
be dependent on none, but he would be open to helping any he chose to. His
childhood was one many would call "remarkable" as he had everything a giant
could ask for. Loving parents, loving friends, and a great teacher. It was
his teacher though that sowed the first seeds of chaos in Eusjouks life.
His teacher, Chilok, a ranger from the northern lands was regarded as the
greatest hunter amongst his clan. He had personally slain over one hundred
Udgaardian soldiers who had come to try and reclaim the northern reaches. He
never once asked for aide from the myriad of Paladins that came to help them.
In fact, he shunned their orderly ways and would have nothing to do with
them.

It was his teachings that Eusjouk would take after and begin to mold into his
own ideals about the world and its people. Eusjouk went on many journeys
with Chilok, and it was on those journeys that Chilok taught Eusjouk about
the wildlands of the world, not just those limited to the north, but of all
the forests and their paths. He taught Eusjouk reverence for nature and the
chaos that her forces bring. He instilled a hunters spirit within Eusjouk
and helped him regard his hunts as sport born of necessity. He taught him to
never waste, but to always praise the spirits of the animals killed.
Finally, Chilok taught Eusjouk about the Lord of Chaos, about the one who it
is said, would leave a gaping maw upon any he dealt with. He did not tell
Eusjouk how to worship, nor that he should, but only that Lyristeon, the
great Imp could challenge him in ways he never imagined.

When Eusjouk would return from his trips from Chilok he would be distant from
his father, and he would make his answers curt and seclude into his own room.
His father did not approve of these actions but was unsure of what he should
do about his sons actions. His advisor, a paladin of the dwarves, set about
finding out information about Chilok in order to help Eusjouks father.When
the paladin found Chilok praying to the Imp he was appalled and attacked him.
Chilok survived with only a few scrapes, but fled the lands of his people as
he had left the dwarf nearly dead. The dwarf was later found by another
paladin and brought back to Eusjouks father. They told his father about the
worship but lied about attacking Chilok, instead twisting the truth and
damning Chilok.Eusjouk was devastated when he learned the news and quickly
setout to find his teacher. Chilok was at their favorite campsite, northeast
of Udgaard, speaking with one of the one-heart scouts. Eusjouk came at
Chilok and demanded the truth from him.Chilok, hearing of the treachery
grabbed his axe and was about to setout to destroy that paladin forever.
Eusjouk, knowing the truth, and knowing what awaited his teacher, begged him
not to go, but to let him go instead, as they would never expect it
