Chapter 2

My parents were merchants in Galadon, not having even the decency
of being from a city friendly to Thar-Eris like Darsylon or Evermoon
Hollow. At a young age I realized I was not interested in their life,
and so I found myself socializing with the village toughs or slipping
out into the Feanywin Weald. As I grew older, my forays into the woods
became longer, until such a time when I stayed out for four days and
three nights without permission, and I witnessed the fire giants
cutting down the trees, laying the forest bare. I witnessed them
rending a deer in two, not for food but for their pleasure, and I
prayed to Shokai to give me the strength to fight them. I stole into
their camp and attempted to slit their throats on the third night, but
my woodlore was lacking and I barely escaped with my life. I returned
to Galadon and my father's house, battered and bruised, and begged my
father to send men in to push out the loggers, but my father instead
chastized me for not staying out when I should be learning a trade.
When he dared to give me an ultimatum I left for good.
Now I call the woods my home, and I strive to become more self-
sufficient and discover that within myself that resonates with the wilds.

Chapter 1

Finally it has occurred. For years now, I have suffered the
presence of Morasfenmire because he is my ally under the broad
branches of the Tree and had given me no cause to strike at him,
but this day while I was taking a rather dangerous swim, in the
form of the shark he chose to rescue me from the trap with three
strong bites. The blood has been wiped clear from my eyes now,
and when he came to the Tree wounded, after I deposited the Codex
and the Scales, he dared give me an impish grin.

I thrust toward his throat, and though the wound gaped open like
a second mouth, the blood rushing out did not herald his death. Thrice
he returned to my woods to attack me, and four times he dragged
his form bleeding back into the sea.

Praise Lord Skyborn that I may henceforth strike him in good
conscience, and if the Ancients smile upon my hunt his blood
prove a rich fertilizer for Thar Eris.
