#1634, "Dual wield changes coming soon"

I have changed it so you can finally dual-wield your fists if you so choose.

- You can have a weapon in you mainhand and fists as your offhand, or fists as your mainhand and a weapon in your offhand.

- The dualwield command no longer requires you to have a weapon in your mainhand to use it.

- Weapons will not automatically shift from your offhand to your mainhand in situations where they used to.

- Fixing parry to work with all of these changes.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Are the help files up to date? For example the second chapter seems outdated in 'help dual' below. Also the 75% rule? And in the new command something like 'dual hand', or do you always automatically dual your fist when wielding a one-handed weapon (provided you have the dual wield skill)?

'DUAL WIELD' DUAL DUAL-WIELD DUALWIELD
wield <weapon> or wield mainhand <weapon>
dualwield <weapon> or wield offhand <weapon>

Taking the time to learn how to fight with a weapon in each hand is no
easy feat. Pure magic-users are unable to dedicate themselves to this
art. The ability to dual wield is affected by several things: your
dexterity, your strength, and the weight of your weapons, etc.
Some weapons are unable to be dual-wielded because of the nature of their
use. A polearm, for example, requires the use of two hands to be used
properly. You cannot wield a secondary weapon that weighs more than 75%
of your primary weapon. In the cases of lighter weapons, this is not
true, but will depend on the weapon you wish to use as your secondary
weapon (for example, you _can_ dual wield with a whip as your primary
weapon even though whips are very light).

How it should work: If you are wearing no weapons and try to wear one, it
will stick it in your main weapon slot. If you are wearing one weapon and
try to wear another weapon, if you don't know dual wield or if the weapon
is not suitable to be dual wielded, it will try to replace your main weapon
with the new weapon...otherwise it will attempt to dual wield it. If you
are already wearing two weapons, if the weapon is suitable for dual wield,
it will try to stick it in that slot, otherwise, it will try to stick it
in your main weapon slot.

Dual wield has an affect on things like shield block, parry, dodge.

Thieves can backstab with a dagger in their dual wield slot if their
main weapon is not a dagger. You need to practice the skill before you
can try to dual wield weapons. Through experimentation, you will learn
which weapons can go with which.

Report any problems or comments in a note to immortal.

Felar may only dual wield with their claws.

Not sure what seems outdated, all of that is still valid.

It's automatic. You don't have to explicitly wield or dual your hands.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Try the paragraph above. Few things:

  • You cannot wear weapons.
  • IIRC dual wield doesn't replace main wield, it's just a too heavy-message.(correct me if I'm wrong here)
  • This looks like how dual wield worked before you started revamping it.

I reluctantly ask these questions because I don't wanna #### it up, but I'd figure I'd ask anyway.. lol

Can you now dual wield AND backfist at the same time (using hands).

Will it now check for unarmed defense if you main wield hands or do you have to have hands only. Does unarmed still work with a shield?

Can you tiger claw while dual wielding fists?

    Just a few for now...

    Yup.

    >with a shield?

I didn't change anything for unarmed defense (that I'm aware of), so however it previously worked.

    >Can you tiger claw while dual wielding fists?

    Unchanged. Same as before.

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

But this does seem to shift the balance of assassins. Specifically, that some of the major benefits of being a felar assassin are no longer exclusive. Just saying. I'll personally take the trade off, but I wanted to make sure it was thought of.

Letting felar assassins get the staff edge to make up for it then. I can't remember if they can get the spear edge or not.

Will this mess with felar dual-wielding their claws with two-handed weapons? Also, as they can only dual wield their claws, can they offhand a weapon and wield claws as primary?
