#6181, "Mobs attacking when you go to sleep"

This is an example of something I sometime experience with mobs.
They only attack you if you sleep. Is it by design?

This is a ragged looking excuse for a Felar. Driven into exile from the
nearby cities, its forced to survive in the harsh frozen wilderness.
You are just about to offer it a little food when you notice some dangerous
looking weapons at its side, and a glazed over look in its eyes as it
stares at your money pouch.
A Felar bandit is in perfect health.

a Felar bandit is using:
<worn around neck> a brown-furred cloak
<wielded> a short spear

A Felar bandit's pierce misses you.
A Felar bandit's claw devastates you!
You have been KILLED!!

You have died, but the Carrion Fields are not finished with you yet!
Your soul is returned to the realms in the form of a ghost.
You will return to your corporeal state in a short while.
Be careful, for even a ghost should fear some dangers!
