You cannot strengthen a circular back cover crafted from rose-tanned leather.

Hardened leather of a deep chestnut brown has been shaped into a single circular
piece, which when worn creates the look of two half moons on either side of an
equine body stretching from withers to croup. The leather must have been taken
from a large animal, as it seems to be constructed masterfully from a single
unmarred sheet of hide. Richly tanned with rose oils, the cover continuously
emits a subtle and sweet floral odor. A thin strip of steel lines the border of
the cover, giving it decoration as well as protection from fraying. The metal
shines with a mirror-like quality. Adding a second row of border above the
steel, a line of rose colored ribbon has been interwoven in precise intervals,
giving a pretty effect between the contrasting colors. The underside of the
cover is heavily padded with lamb's wool for added comfort and protection. Two
sets of thick leather straps with steel buckles keep the entire piece secured
allowing it to stay in place as well as providing support.

A circular back cover crafted from rose-tanned leather is armor, made of leather, and weighs 12 pounds 1 ounces.
