I've since been told this is the Shaman ability Mors Gravis Aspect.

It seems the ability is forcing paladins to strike the shaman rather than the shaman to hit the paladin. This could cause significant problems in cities/with the spire. It is also firing when the shaman should not be able to hit the paladin, because he is fighting other opponents or in a lagged state. However since the paladin is being forced to attack the shaman, the ability still initiates.

Only the echos were reversed, the shaman was still doing the attacking.

The echos have been fixed. The aspect of angel commune had the same issue, which was also fixed. Thanks to everyone that reported it.
