If you just carry a bunch of + moral items it will boost your moral, that is you don't have to wear them.
I'll regret ever mentioning this.

It only changes when you wear/remove them. The Morale code only looks at items you are wearing, not your inventory. Not sure why you think this is the case. So long, and thanks for all the fish!

It had like +8 moral on it. The icey body armor for giants? I can't remember its name, but so long as I was lugging it around my moral was extra high. Maybe it was just a fluke.
