Maybe you got sleeping disarmed, or something along those lines? Seems like the most obvious possibility.

Or maybe the kidney shot lowered your strength enough to drop the weapon, but it didn't give the echo because you were asleep when you got hit?

Maybe kidney shot applies the str loss before dealing the damage; if you lose a weapon to str loss while sleeping, you certainly don't get to see any echo (this just happened to me a day or two ago). Before taking damage from the 'shot, you were still sleeping, and thus, no echo?

Kidney shot is -str right? Maybe there's something about being *woken* by the skill that causes you to drop your weapon that causes you not to see the "you can no longer wield" echo? Like, maybe the code tries to make the echo go through before he's actually considered to be "awake"? Just a guess.
