And for each Eudessa that got a fairly easy spot for life, there was another character that got a fairly difficult spot for life. And some of both categories never found their spot, and had no way to know where to start looking.

The design goal wasn't to make a system that worked for Eudessa the necromancer at the expense of others. One design goal was to make a system that was equally fair to all mages.
