As an ongoing process, Umiron and I created a database of the many, many ways newbie (level 1-10) characters have gotten themselves killed in Thera over a 12-month span. They're spread out over a huge number of methods, but thanks to Umiron's fancy database work, we've begun isolating the most lethal things that aren't so easily blamed on bad decisions by the recently deceased.

As of this reboot, the causes of ~12% of those deaths have been addressed in some fashion. While the changes are not intended to be entirely foolproof, you're likely to have a couple extra chances to say "Huh. This isn't going well." or "Well, that doesn't look like a good idea."

This is an ongoing process, and while we're likely never to get to the hundreds of things that kill one newbie per year, we should be able to refine the biggest "traps". Please keep in mind that the things that kill more skilled players at lower levels are not necessarily the same as the things that kill less-skilled players.

As an example of something we're not going to adjust: If you attack a non-aggressive NPC who is well above your level because he happens to hold a desirable item, and he kicks your face up and down his Lumberyard stairs for your trouble, we're chalking that up to "a learning experience about the Consider command and greed".
