Most of your equipment slots are relevant.

Probably, you should have a mindset more of trying to avoid armor that's bad for your choice, vs. trying to wear armor that's good for your choice (although that's relevant too.)

Basically, whenever you commune sanctuary, you make some kind of check against your haven skill. If it's successful, your sanctuary is a little longer. So any skill in haven is of some use, and higher skill in haven is more likely to help.
