Well if they were assassin or thief and could sneak up and discern its all good but discern for a warrior would let most people run away in the lag from discerning.
I always go for the mage first because tactically its best as 9/10 times they fall down quicker and it gives the warrior time to leg it out of there.
As for full looting, well I never let any rager knowingly full loot less they had the 'hunted' flag and even then I dont recall letting it happen.
I hate full looting at any time and so I dont do it and had a good understanding with many of the mages I fought and killed and was killed by.

murder mage
say damn ragers, he got away from me.
