Chapter 27

Within the crushing depths of the plunge pool of an oceanic waterfall, the
senses are enveloped in a world of dim, flickering light. The faint rays that
filter down from above dance across the smooth rocks, softly illuminating the
corals, and sand with a warmth and brightness that is rare at this depth.

The only air is churning in the form of tiny bubbles which fill the roaring
current with sound. They swirl and eddy at the mouth of the river. The
constant roar of the water adds a steady, rhythmic, almost pattern-like pulse
to the background noise, gradually slowing as the distance to the river's
mouth grows.

Drifting away the plunge pool appears as a riot of color, with rainbow reefs,
corals, anemones, and fish all coexisting in this underwater paradise.
Drifting further leaves a sense of disconnection to replace the peaceful
harmony found in the raging currents and as the thumping of the water slowly
fades away, the wonder of the plunge pool carves its memory into the soul.
