Chapter 1

Near the start of the 6th age, a friendship blossomed in Darsylon between Aiya
Wanwahina, a wood-elven child living in Arendyl, and Kai Hwenthalion, an elven
child of noble decent. They were inseperable and loved nothing better than to
play in the vale of Arendyl. No matter the season, you'd always see those two
together, or else you'd hear their laughter. The nobility of Darsylon castle
generally scoffed at the budding relationship, but Kai's parents tolerated her
due to the fact their eldest daughter had just recently run off to marry a
human. Aiya's parents were no where to be found, she was raised by wild elves in
the vale. Wanwahina means lost child in some older elvish dialects.

As they became adolescents, Aiya and Kai began venturing into Blackwater swamp
on All Hallow's Eve. Drawn by tantalizing rumors of a great dragon that lived
within. Their foolish young minds urged them towards danger, but they never
ventured too far in to get into trouble. However, one year, trouble ventured
farther out. An orc spotted them and gathered his foul comrades. As Kai and Aiya
returned to the vale to wash the muck off their feet, Aiya thought she heard
someone whispering her name. She looked under some brush and spotted a cooshee
pup panting, "H'aiya'aiya'aiya'h'aiya." Terribly amused at the situation, Aiya
crawled in to greet the pup. Then she heard a sickening thud. Turning around,
she saw Kai looking stunned and pained. As he fell forward, Aiya saw an axe
stuck in the base of his skull. She screamed before she noticed the orc that
was behind Kai. As soon as she did, the cooshee darted forward. Snarling and
growling as best it could. The orc, unaware of the presence of Aiya or the
cooshee fell back on his rear in surprise. The other orcs howled with laughter,
and spent so much time mocking the killer that the elven guard showed up and
drove the orcs back into Blackwater before they could touch Aiya. The elves
brought Aiya to the castle and questioned her about what happened. There was
some blame thrown her way for taking Kai into Blackwater, but that vanished as
she broke into tears. Losing Kai, Aiya had realized that she was in love with
him. As Aiya left the castle for the vale, a Sirine seamstress wrapped her arms
around the young wood-elf. The sirine had always enjoyed musing about the two
friends and their blooming romance, and as she saw Aiya broken, she could not
let this sorrow grow. She took Aiya into her home and tended to her spirit. Aiya
adopted the cooshee pup, like her, it did not seem to have any parents. She
named the pup Wawa, after her name and the adorably fierce display in the vale.
