Chapter 7

Gillem traveled quickly to Akan. He went door to door, trying to find one of
his kinsmen to take in the child. Gillem could not himself for he was unwed
and traveled too often to care for a baby. Most thought the half-breed was
some sort of Duergar mischief.

Gillem went to his cousin by marriage Nikaulta as a last resort, for she
never seemed the mothering type. Gillem entered her shop and cleared his
throat to get her attention. The weapon smith turned to face Gillem and
nodded to great. Gillem presented the child to Nikaulta and waited for her
response. Nikaulta wiped the soot from her face and stared at the child.
The baby opened her eyes, reached out and grabbed Nikaultas black beard.
She smiled and took the baby in her arms.

Nikaulta looked at Gillem and said, "For the love of Bria, she know her mama!
what we gonna be namin her eh? Is say it be somethin elvish since she
be lookin like one".

Gillem laughed and said, "How does Melacarfina sound to ya? It be meanin
she a red head or somethin like dt".

Nikaulta nodded and left her shop. She headed over to her husbands business
to tell him they would finally have a child.
