Chapter 5

Perhaps it was his notoriety as the Bandit King, perhaps just a random
occurrence- likely it will never be known why he was chosen. On an otherwise
unremarkable day, a mysterious and powerful Lich approached Djetmai in the
streets of Hamsah, with a strange proposition.

It had occurred to Djetmai to tell the Lich to go straight to hell, as such
creatures epitomize the enemy of the Village. Yet he could not resist hearing
out the creature, wondering what it all meant, and would admit to no one how
truly tempting the offer was.

For all that Djetmai was, in his striving for honor and the resistance of
temptation, he was still a thief at heart, torn by wars that constantly raged
inside and out. He did all that he could to control to follow his father's
teachings, to be a master of war himself and to be nothing like a common
thief or a magi. And yet the promises of immense power were intriguing, as
was the opportunity to ruin a mummy simply by stealing a single item of great
power, a thing of the Ancients as it was described.

He slept poorly, dreaming of demons and darkness,
as his mind wandered between power and duty, strength and
temptation. What did it all mean? What truths were obscured, and what
consequences would follow?

Even if he got this item- supposedly an orb of some kind- he was uncertain
what he would do with it. Perhaps give to Tahren, perhaps to Iunna or
Hammersong- or perhaps, as he feared, he would be unable to resist the
temptation and would do the unthinkable, disgracing himself and the Village
for powers that had yet to be revealed. This dilemna caused him great anxiety
and fueled the fire of rage in his gut.

There were many mysteries obscured and no doubt great dangers in this
mission. After much deliberation, he decided that he would trust this
information with the Commander in hopes of greater clarity on what it all
meant and perhaps to clear his worries as well.
