Chapter 2

-Djetmai Kataana was raised by his father, a wise and respected assassin with
close ties to the Village. Djetmai was trained to be a highly disciplined
warrior and ultimately a great weapon against all who use magic.

-He was sent to work in the mines at a young age. As his father saw it, this
was a part of his training and also a practical means for income. Early on he
despised the work, which was indeed quite brutal. Over time, he learned to
unearth treasures of immense value, which he would steal at any opportunity.

-Despite his father's attempts to focus solely on the arts of combat and war,
to raise the ultimate soldier, Djetmai could not keep himself away from
distractions of gold and extravagant decorated blades and armors from distant
lands.

-His father was killed by an army of magi (or so he'd been told and which he
believed, as his father was as tough as they came, a hero among assassins,
and a renowned killer of magi), further engraining Djetmai's hatred of magic
on an emotional level.

-Djetmai views magic as a weakness, a sickness even, as a power that was
stolen from the Gods. He would never admit it, even to himself, but at times
he is envious of that power. Just as he himself abandoned the path of the
"pure warrior" in pursuit of forbidden treasures, there is an internal war
that rages within Djetmai. This manifests as an obsession with destroying
magic, almost as if he were at war with a part of himself that might steal
that from the Gods too, if given the chance.

-In many ways, Djetmai remains a warrior at heart and truly wishes to be as
disciplined as his father. Yet there is a part of him that's undeniably drawn
to wealth and all curiosities of the world, even the occasional mayhem for
reasons he cannot explain. The highly disciplined life is something he openly
praises but in reality never seems to be able to maintain.

-He has no understanding of good and bad, in any traditional sense. He is
driven by a desire to excel in combat and a belief that the world is, has,
and always will be in a perpetual state of war. There is no winning or
losing, but rather a constant unfolding of battles. For Djetmai, meaning in
life comes through aligning oneself in a position to succeed in the art of
war, no matter the cause. To be passive is to be swept away by others
battles. Those who are strongest and most disciplined will fight without
magic, and thus are more likely to thrive. As he was raised to do, he has
pledged his life to the Village without question or hesitation.
