Chapter 2

Grawshen Sootsel.

Thats his name now, he used to be a duergar on a fast-track training program
in Aran'gird.

When he was young, the King's Guard had picked him out to train for the Black
Dragon's. The King's ferocious honor guard. Their beards were the longest,
their loyalty the deepest, and their ferocity unmatched.

But another clan had other plans. This clan, a shadowy group of priests and
magi, had perfected an art of summoning demons and devils. They presented
their findings to the King while Grawshen was being initiated to the Black
Dragon's.

The King was enthused, and he immediately demoted his loyal guard down to
being a regular army regiment, and promoted these demons to the place of the
King's Honor Guard. As a 'gift' for their years of service, the King let the
Dragons duel the demons to keep his new protectors on their toes.

One day, during one of these brawls, things got out of hand. The Dragons, who
were stripped down to practice armor and weapons were fighting the Demon's
who had charms placed on them to make them more docile then usual.

When the charms broke.

Utter chaos ensued, as the entire legion of demons kicked themselves into an
infernal frenzy and decimated the Black Dragons. Grawshen watched from a
corner, the wriggling body of a dying lesser demon lay pooling in a puddle of
black icor beneath him.

He bolted out of the training arena, down the streets, out of the city. He
slept for days in the Underdark, cultivating, refining a hatred for what had
taken away his promising life. He was upset. The King didn't recognize the
traits that had made the Black Dragon's so resilient in combat. The Loyalty,
the Honor, the Courage they had. The Dragon's were fierce to a fault, and
they never backed down.

Now, their last warrior, Grawshen appeared on the surface. Having finally
found the root of what had gone wrong: Magic, the King had been beguiled by
such corruption, Grawshen wished to take the battle against such on a grander
scale, upon the surface.
