Chapter 7

My time as a magistrate has been anything but boring. At any given
time, I am either chasing after criminals, ignoring death threats,
investigating dead ends, or just hoping my hostile angels and demons
do not get me ejected from the Spire. I guess they figure that if they
cannot kill me regularly, they may as well try to ruin my career.

One demon in particular already tried this, attacking an outlander in
Galadon in front of Provost Kholav. Fortunately, a raid was in
progress so there were no consequences against me. That particular
demon won't be welcome along me again in the future, although I
suspect he's already told his peers what it takes to ruin me.

I have also been appointed a young magistrate to train and look out
for, a minotaur who I probably shouldn't name. He has some real anger
issues, and is constantly lashing out upon other magistrates, both
verbally and physically. Unfortunately, I was told that his failure
would be my failure, but I am not sure how to deal with this without
having it reflect badly upon me. His issues do not seem related to his
duty at all, mainly just against everybody else he has to work with. I
will need to get some advise from the Provost soon on this matter.

Finally, I think I have nearly cracked the secret of Loch Grynmear,
having found that unholy book of Zurcon. I am a little intrigued from
what I have read of it, but am not quite ready to gamble on my eternal
soul in trying to tap into its powers. I will continue researching and
see what I can glean from this book before having it destroyed.
