I know the feeling Twist.. I actually remember when Twist was a mortal and a Ranger led the Masters. (How many gnolls did we kill with you, Cador and my ranger?) I enjoyed our chats, the fun we had when this place was first getting started. And truthfully, I've missed that. After I deleted Trouble the last time, I stayed away for a couple of years, but I've actually started creeping back in the last couple of months with a new mortal. You and the others have made enough new things that it's like exploring all over again. If you (or the others who knew me back then) ever feel like getting in touch, email trouble@planet-save.com
Peace and may your life be interesting.

I still, to this day, don't understand what you were trying to do with the whole magic-nature thing, many blame the death of Masters on it.
How do you feel about this? What was your intention behind it?

Sorry to see you go, I had a lot of fun playing mortals with you, both when we grouped together, and when I had to plot against you. You, Cador, Saher and Nep were always there to keep me interested in playing the game, and some times I really long for those extended gaming sessions again.
Hope you will find that spark with CF again, sometimes it just takes a vacation to make things interesting again.

My memories of you go back to your mortal days, when the basic classes didn't have 35+ titles and the Imms gave us ones we requested. I remember your Leader of the Great Ghost Dance title and Saher talking about you, though I think I only interacted with you once as a mortal.
After that, when I was a heroimm, I remember you trying to set me up with acute vision. I think you did that because a mortal of yours asked me what my title meant (I think it was a garbled "the Baron of Chaos") and I told the mortal that it was up to him. Even if that wasn't the reason, it was nice to have an encouraging sign from a senior Imm that I was doing well, especially after SH said heroimms couldn't have anything of the sort. (Sure would be interesting to give the current heroimms those terrible area docs and have the old SH scare the hell out of them. )
Since those starry-eyed days of mine I saw you as a steady, guiding force behind the game. Each of us have differing strengths and abilities that we contribute to CF and one of your best qualities was keeping the focus on the game that Carrion Fields ultimately is. That and the other qualities you brought to CF won't leave the Imm staff for they are possessed in quantities by each of us, but I can definitely say that none of us have them combined in the way you had and that will be missed.
Thank you for what you gave to CF, the players, the Imm staff, and me over the years.

Despite all my bitches, whines and theories I have always enjoyed CF at one level or another. And I have little doubt that one of the biggest reasons I kept coming back time and time again was because of your contributions. I interacted with you on quite a few ocassions as Twist, never though as Balgrimnr. Fun times all of them, even when I was being yelled at for doing something bad. As I mentioned to someone else earlier. Twist was one cool mofo!

My thank you revolves around what occurred with my character Saerin than anything else. It was luck that I happened to keep this character around long enough for the Dawn quest to begin. I had always wondered if you had been the one who ran the quest since you were the first person I had talked with when entering the haven. Up until that point, I had been a disgruntled CF player, and it turned it around for me for a little while longer.. well at least until life actually caught up with me.
Good luck to you and whatever comes next.

You old dog, gonna miss you a fair ammount. You were the one of the few imms that I really loved, everything that you did both good and bad you always had justification for, justification that you explained to those involved. Thought often I didnt agree with you on many things I had a blast interacting with you with a massive arsenal of characters. I know that in the real life you will excell at anything you put your mind to. I hope that soon there will be little tacker twists playing CF, with their old man sitting behind them giggling away .

This'll be my very first post on these forums. I'd heard Twist deleted, and had to come and see if it was true for myself.
I don't know how much we interacted, and I suppose I never will. Every time I talked to "a merchant" or "a shadow" I had to wonder who it was; every time I talked to someone up in Asgaard, it was either another heroimm or "An Immortal." But I know exactly who you were and what you did for this mud. I've also quit, but you are an integral part of my memories of this place -- just had to come and pay my respects.
Macheath pours out a 40 for Twist (or whoever this "Balgrimnr" joker is).

Damn, that's a bitch. I had a feeling it might have been coming, but I was hoping you'd just go dormant.
A lot of people think various imms have various grudges and various conspiracy theories, but I don't believe I ever heard someone accuse you of treating them unfairly, which is practically unheard of. In all my dealings with you, you were evenhanded and a really cool guy, which is why I made this character.
I'm sure others will touch on their favorite moments or whatever, but my favorite thing was how you cut through the ##### and spoke to people straight. You said what you thought, and we, the players, really appreciated it.
Good luck, and I hope some day you again have enough time and inclination to waste large chunks of it on the Fields.

I don't what exactly to say, other than you will be missed and your efforts over the years are greatly appreciated. I haven't had any interactions with you since the change to Bal, but as Twist you were by far my favorite imm. You gave me my first tattoo as a matter of fact. Anyway, good luck in the future and maybe we'll see you around sometime in the future.

Thats pretty much the feeling I experienced when I read the Death_Angel's post with your name in it. Thanks for your fairness, and for your support, and for all the interactions that made the game more than just letters on a screen.

I can't say I'm that surprised, but damned if I wasn't hoping you'd get back into it someday. Good times, man. Good times.
I'll keep hoping that you'll get the random urge to at least be with us as a mortal again someday. In your prime, I think you were the best there was. You could play absolutely anything and make it look dangerous. More, whatever you played was always fun, even being on the other side from you. You had real range and could handle an honorable knight, compulsively lying ranger, big dumb warrior, etc. with equal facility.
You'll be genuinely missed, both as a player and as an immortal. I don't know what else to say.
Um, don't go north.

Ok, well, there was no burning reason for my departure other than a generic loss of interest. I stopped playing mortals about a year ago (though tried to rekindle the "spark" a while ago with Gahmn, my Scarabite assassin) and when you come down to it, PLAYING THE GAME was always my motivation. Making it better to play was an added bonus, but (call me selfish) trying to make a game better for people when you don't enjoy playing it yourself anymore loses the fun factor pretty quick.
I'm going to do some quick thank-you's and such. No, I won't hit everyone. No, if I didn't hit you it doesn't mean I forgot you...I can't thank everyone here and keep it short.
Nepenthe/Drokalanatym/Steve: You are easily what kept my playing CF for the past 3 years (at least). I can't begin to count the good times you and I had on CF.
Rahvin/ShaidarHaran/BoltThrower/Matt: Damn, I have to wonder if you knew what you were starting, all those years ago. If you could have known then how much blood, sweat, and tears you'd end up putting into CF, I think you might have said "screwit" and put all that energy into classic automobile restoration or something In any case, I appreciate you giving me the chance to be an Imm (and an IMP). I still have my original "Boy Scout Merit Badge" memories from the first post I saw you put on rec.games.mud.diku.
Galadriel/Nordewin/Barbara: I STILL think I could have done cone of cold just like fireball....but in the end, proving how inept I was at coding probably saved me a lot of headaches.
Jullias/Steve: Every single person who has gotten any slice of enjoyment from CF in the past...5? years owes a large thanks to you. CF wouldn't exist w/o the founders, no, but it also would have been long gone if not for you. I don't think people realize how much of the costs you shoulder.
Pico/Aaron: The man with the most thankless job(s) in all of CF. If CF had anyone who could be considered a "manager" I think it's you. Thanks for the doses of reality and the devil's advocate when I'd get a crazy idea, and thanks for all the crap you have to go through.
Scarabaeus/Andy: You have more creativity in your fingernail than I have if you put 3 of me together. I enjoyed you almost more when I was mortal and interacted with you...even as recently as my last mortal.
Sebeok/Doug: You (and Zulg) are the workhorses, and have been for a while. I know I speak for a lot of people when I say I appreciate all the coding you guys do. I also appreciate the times we had as Imms together...too many to mention.
Yanoreth: Heyla.
Bria, Shokai, Cyradia, Uller, Zulghinlour, Valguarnera, Thror, Savraeth: You (and some others who I interact(ed) with less often) are the "new breed". You all have definitely stepped in as I (and some of the other older Imms) have lost interest/time/etc. and performed admirably. I know I've told some of you this, but not often enough nor all of you...thank you for your effort in keeping CF a great place.
The rest of the Imm staff: Forgive me for not mentioning each of you individually, but I need to wrap this up, and quite frankly it's been so long since I've truly been active that I hardly know many of you. I hope you all enjoy your time as CF Imms. Try to remember that the playerbase as a whole really does appreciate the game...or else they'd stop playing. Don't let a few "tough nuts" make you lose the fun of CF.
Graham: Be nice to the new kids, Haggis-breath...they might not realize you're a blowhard who just likes to bitch and moan about stuff, like I realize.
Euan: Drive over and smack Graham for me (if you even read this anymore).
Zorszaul: I still don't know who you are. If you still read this forum, send me an email and tell me. I can die happy.

It was nice following your religion, Honor. I have never had such a character and it was great...until...You came to me in my guild in Black Claw and told me that I treat my victims with no respect. I think I only did that with Runimof, that trib mage who i killed for flagging me for no reason. I think that was the only time in Sajar's life where he was consumed by hatred and full looted his victim, then telling him ill feed his corpse to the wild animals. You said to me: "You treated your victim as though you just stepped on a bug." As a player I think you were right, but as Sajar, considering I attacked a group of 3, killed one, other one quaffed and the third ran gushing...you shoulda been more lenient. And i had solo ranked to 31 too! Thanks for saving me the trouble though. Other than that, i dont think i broke, if you call that breaking it, the honor code I had made for myself.
After you said that to me, I sort of lost interest in Sajar and started something new. I played Sajar once in while, still keeping honor as his guide and prayed once in a while for redemption. I never heard from you after that, and I dont know if you ever watched me. If I had the smallest hint that you were still willing to give me a chance I might have kept playing him, seeking redemption.
I would really like to hear what else you thought of him besides the respect part...however Sajar is still an active char and I would like it very much if you could send me an e-mail to let me know what you though. Much thanks Sajar E-mail: lecctor@sbcglobal.net

1. If you don't mind my asking, what was your main motivation for leaving, aside from lack of motivation? Was there anything in particular that bothered you, such as screwball players, or was it just time to go?
2. What was your PK Ratio?!? All those smites and stuff must add up nicely!
Thanks for all the work. I mainly interacted with you when you were Twist, and it was a great time. Masters is/was the greatest cabal ever, and you were a great imm for it.
Good luck in whatever you do...

"Dear Lord: The gods have been good to me. For the first time in my life, everything is absolutely perfect just the way it is. So here's the deal: You freeze everything the way it is, and I won't ask for anything more. If that is OK, please give me absolutely no sign. OK, deal. In gratitude, I present you this offering of cookies and milk. If you want me to eat them for you, give me no sign. Thy will be done."

Well, damn... You were a great Imm even though for most of my players you were that damned god of magic. But you knew me as that inept battlerager using the same characters in names (Erakee, Eekare, and Reekae) and probably a few others. The few times I remember you playing a mortal (Elkhalabib was one of your guys if I recall) you were a bad ass and a pleasure to know.
Sorry to see you go and hope you might get the urge to play a mort one of these days.

but thank you for all that you did for it. I started playing way back when and I probably interacted with many of your mortals over my seven years of playing. I remember a lot of times seeing you vis as Twist when I had all of my ragers of ages past and I'd sometimes send a little, hey, just killed so and so your way. I always liked those smites. Anyway, you were awesome, wish I had interacted with you more, but you made it more fun. I had a few imms over my years, which didn't make it do to personal reasons. I don't know if you remember Sakaii or Dilon, but I'm fairly certain you made Sakaii an Immortal just after he finished raiding the Knights Castle. Thanks for all you did again.
Aaron aka Minyar/Sakaii/Josiah/Dilon/Creon/Sintarlin (and many more)
PS Many people probably want to know, but would you let us know who some of your most famous mortals were? I know you played a few, as well as Nepenthe and a few others.

In case you don't remember me, I was a Sylvan healer dwarf about four years ago. We were chasing the Lich leader of Masters... Oroxazrian, I think, and he ran into Ysigrath. Turned out that none of the three warders I was with knew our way around there. After wandering for quite some time, Twist uncloaked his presence and mocked us for not knowing our way around the wilds. I thought it was pretty cool. Gergran

Just wanted to say thanks for all you did over the years, and for giving a lich with a bad sense of direction some fun chats as a new immortal and before.
Thanks for all the feedback on ideas, for being a great Game Balance Guy, and for handling scary jobs like the pfiles. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
Har, big guy. Har.
