What a funny line we walked for a while. You blackjacking and doing nothing. Then I finally got those wingsweeps off. Sorry about Arial city, eh? Very...thiefy, staying to the shadows, and being a real annoyance at times, but not really deadly unless there was someone around. Well played.

Background: A few weeks before, I'd left mention of my interest to become Bandit King with the appropriate people (thanks to Soucivi). At the current time, I'd recently learned drag, and so was seeing how to make use of it when this happens.
*****

Sariyah the Master of Bandits says 'Dragging was difficult to learn for me as well.'

You nod.

You step out of the shadows.
You say 'Not so much difficult to learn, though tiring to do.'

You attempt to hide.

The Guild of Shadows
Those that have trained in the art of thievery have gathered here under
the guidance of the Master of the Guild, a position of dubious honor given
the Sultan's hatred of thieves. Leaded glass lamps burn dimly throughout
the hall, providing shadows for those that gather here. Dark panelled walls
of fine wood, thick carpeting of deep red and purple, fixtures of polished
silver -- all these things speak of the guild's secreted wealth and prosperity
despite their persecution. Lining one of the walls in a collection of gags,
ropes, and blindfolds.

A short man dressed in muted colors lingers in the shadows.

And from here, I tie the warrior up, drag him out of the Guild, and go about my business. Another week or so goes by, then I get the title I have since become so proud of, and had the fortune to bear to my grave. Hope you all enjoyed the read.

Here is where the magic was supposed to happen. But.
My command to make you Bandit King was met with a very
inopportune Huh?. Which is why I went with:

>Sariyah the Master of Bandits says 'I'll pass the word along
>to the other guilds.'

I had to ask for help.

>Sariyah the Master of Bandits says 'At least to Glinar. That
>damnable Scriblu can learn thirdhand for all I care.'

SCriblu got the brunt of so much verbal abuse during this time,
and I don't know why, but when I look through my logs he really
just got hammered.

I really enjoyed Calheil and there were times that I tinkered with
the notion of crossing certain lines and making you one of mine,
but I ran out my quota on that and you really didn't need the
extra juice to be an even bigger pain in the ass to people you
ran into (good thing). Whenever I got the chance to really watch
you, you made me very proud you were Bandit King, though it may
not have come through as you weren't one of my spheres which gave
you a little more distance from me.

I realize it was very slow going getting that one thing done, but
sometimes even the little things take a lot of time.

A unique Bandit King (so far), a superb thief, and a binder
without equal I'd say.

Well done.

Qaledus

Heh, I sorta just figured whoever was behind that didn't have things planned for the non-Galadon Kingpins, since I hadn't heard of any every before.

Heh, well, at least Scriblu didn't get the physical abuse Glinar did. It's gotta be embarrassing to be tied up, and drug out of your Guild.

Yeah, given that I ran into the same problem with Rhuean and Intronan's religion (again it appeared after Rhuean was well along), I pretty much understood that it was the whole sphere thing that kept you a bit more removed. I think one of the most satisfying remarks you gave me was that I was the most independant of the leaders. It let me know you did pay attention, and were pleased, but that's all Calheil could really expect from Qaledus. It made it hard though, since as a player, I loved interacting with you, but knew as Calheil not to bother you unless I was ready to give you something, or it was more serious Guild business.

>I realize it was very slow going getting that one thing done,

*chuckle* See what happens when you hire shoddy merchants? I was so excited when you gave that to me, but then I just had to laugh when I couldn't use it.

Thanks, it means a lot, especially from you. At some point, I'm going to try and steal your board for my comments about binders. As to the ideas for Guild things...I had that same problem of trying to think things up, but at some point, I'll try to email you my ideas.

P.S. Go tie up Zulghinlour for me until he promises to release my PBF info! All your comments about it whenever I showed up, I want to know how much commerce exp I got!

#33092, "RE: (AGE DEATH) [None] Calheil en'Sariyah the Hand of t..."
In response to Reply #0

Well, went to bed after I died, then had school and work all day, but here's the goodbyes.

Calheil was one of those characters whom I created just to break molds, and create a character no-one had done before. First, was to play a binder myself, and see how valid the complaints were. Once I had that in mind, I decided to try and become (the first?) non-Galadon Kingpin, and hopefully create a lasting effect on the Hamsah Mu'tazz Guild. This led me to originally create Calheil as a sphere order, possibly to follow Khasotholas. However, I wasn't really certain how Khasotholas the Immortal would respond, so never pursued it, then Qaledus appeared, and things got *REALLY* entertaining.

Calheil's first and only loyalty was to his Guild, and like Imperials, this led to a much different perspective from people within the Guild, and outside. He was also a very proud person when it came to the Guild, and did not take slights kindly (perceived or real). In the course of his lifespan, Calheil was enemy to every cabal at some point, and ally to every cabal. A dubious reputation, which is also why he tried it so that even if you doubted his allegiances, once he told you he was on your side, you knew it was truth. Also, Calheil was very involved in politics among the Guilds, which I found quite enjoyable, and something of a change of pace. Now, for goodbyes.

First, of course, the Immortals.

Qaledus - What can I say? You have to top the list. You really seemed to bring life to the Guilds, and I have to thank you for everything you did for Calheil himself, and to make playing him enjoyable. It's difficult to express how much of an impact you had, so I will do so simple. Thank you.
(Still, don't expect I won't haunt you if you don't finish those arrangements we have going!)

Soucivi - Your guidance to a young thief was appreciated, and I don't know how far I could have gotten with your initial help.

Khasotholas - I know we didn't...well, ever interact. But I would like to ask if, from anything you saw/heard of Calheil, my intent of having the Hamsah Guild as my everlasting legacy would have allowed me to follow you. I primarily didn't because of chats with Lochzan, which made it seem as you wanted people to create the legacy Khasotholas desires.

Eshval - Never really quite knew what you wanted from Calheil, and given her reputation, I tried not to bother her needlessly. It was a sensible idea at the time, and given previous history, but I have to say...this new bunch just don't know who not to piss off, hehe.

Grurk - Well, it's hard to get things going in such a short time span, and I know you're quite busy as a young Immortal, but I do hope you consider what we spoke of. I think it would really help
those people, and it seems fitting for the characters. Either way, I'm hope I found a few to help pass the mortal baton with.

Vynmylak - Don't know if you see this, but I appreciated the time you took to speak with me. I understand the God's point of view, especially from Calheil, but as a player...I *REALLY* didn't want to be turned evil and lose my skills.

Now, mortals...
First and foremost, my family and favorites. The Bandit's Guild of Hamsah Mu'tazz - Calheil always views his position as one of responsibility and not of priviledge. I hope I was able to give you guidance or assistance whenever you needed, and was able to be a father figure, as Calheil viewed his position should be. I also tried to give it a bit of it's own personal "flavor" among thieves, and I hope it was enjoyed.

Specific ones...Trotat, Etalia, Nazzryn, Guarzhin, Sulaysef, Kirkahk, Ainamad, etc etc...so many individual personalities, all of whom I enjoyed our interactions immensely.

Other friendly thieves - Gacseole, Liateo, Hentogi, Kintros, Raja. Shout outs to each of you as well, particularly the leaders with whom I plotted with.

Enemy thieves - Most of you were from Galadon, whom Calheil saw as the only rivals to Hamsah Mu'tazz. You'll almost always slaughter everyone in donations, but lose every fight. It's sort of the price you pay for the craft, but each guild has a nasty price somewhere. Calheil just found you all fat and lazy, but I enjoyed the rivalry in general. It's just the way the cards are played.

Fortress - Wow. Who would have thought such a long, vicious hatred could start over a pair of sub-15 level characters. To lay all the cards out...I never once lied. Itarille did try to kill me, and the utter buddy-buddyness of Fortress (to be expected) made Calheil hate so many. Binders just can't get anything done when people are there to untie. However...I did try to steal from her. Hehe. Made up with some, fought with some. Specific mentions to Scharnz, my old Fortress friend while it lasted, Kelin for the long bitter hatred between the characters, and Lariya, Audriel, and the recent crew who were willing to give a little trust.

Scion - Trotat and Nazzryn's membership, plus the convenient location were the original catalysts for our alliance. Dreaa and Muuloc were the last remnants of that old group. Good luck as Immortals, both of you. The new members? Jeezus, you want to talk about Team Evil? It was disgusting. Ah well, that's how things go.

Empire - Well, two things made Calheil hate the Empire. Lowbie duergar warriors who thought detect hidden made them thief-slayers (How I loved proving those wrong), and the immense arrogance of Urog and Shanta as thieves. Not that I fault them for it, just the characters were arrogant and demanding, and Calheil didn't take well to that. Well done characters, both.

Outlanders - Well...this was one h#ll of an interesting relationship. I gained Tjok's trust somewhat early, and I think that saved me a GREAT deal of pain. Somewhat buddy-buddy, but that's to be expected...really hated you all fogging and earthquaking me when I was just wandering by though. Really people, if I was *TRYING* to do bad things to you...I wouldn't be talking so you knew I was there...honestly. I was glad to see that Outlanders were able to see the possible alliance with varying Thieves guilds against the oppressive Tribunal.

Tribunal - Started off on good terms, but with Scion, the new crew not knowing and trusting me caused such hassles and began the quarrelling. My primary gripe? None of you are willing to compromise in any way. It makes it *REALLY* hard to roleplay with you. Pretty much leaves me thinking of a big group of automatons. I knew if I did this, then Magistrates would do that, and otherwise it wasn't worth dealing with many. Though, I suppose that's just how Tribunal is supposed to be in a way with their laws and order.

Battle - Well, mostly dealt with you all individually. I wasn't an enemy in general, and most of the time you all didn't have enough worthwhile to rob or money to pay me. Still, I love the cabal, so props to you all.

Uncaballed...well, I know I'll forget too many, so I'll leave that to individuals (Heralds to, since that was more individual interactions)

Without a doubt, Trotat's best ally and only friend (if you consider evils having "friends"). Few days go by that I haven't kicked myself for deleting. There was a lot more we could have accomplished had I stayed around.

I thought we made an effective 1-2 combination in the guild. Even though I conspired against you, it tore me up OOC to betray you, and in the end I'm glad it never came to that. That's how much I liked your character. Glad you let me stick around after finding out as well.

I knew that Calheil was played by someone skilled, and seeing that it was you, I'm somehow not surprised. Congratulations on a successful character.

Please feel free to drop me an email at drinkbeastandlikeit@yahoo.com if you'd like to discuss thief;y things.

All the best to your next,

Trotat

I wasn't quite sure what to write for it but here is why I wrote
what I did. Even though we were on good terms, I was always uneasy
around you for some reason. It was like one of those things where
I was like 85% sure you weren't going to kill me, but that other
fifteen percent made me shiver for some reason. And then you
threatened to haunt me if I wrote a bad obituary. Also I got the
impression from talking to you the few times that I did that you
thought of the guild as your sort of legacy. So i thought a sort
of fading away into what seems like an embellised creepy legend
would be appropriate. Anyway that was my impression of your
personality so that is what you got for note. Hope you liked it.

I'm glad you caught Calheil's perspective towards the Guild, and though you really didn't ever have to worry (You never gave Calheil a reason to dislike you, and we were working on projects nicely), I'm happy with the feel Calheil gave off. You were the assistance few others could provide, and for that I thank you. Now, as I promised, I'm off to haunt your competitors.

You may think it was boring, but you have to realize, as lorgray I was trying to play a by the book, weed out corruption style of player. Some events lead me to fuel my RP for that style, which revolved around you. I wanted to trust you ooc, but ic I dont ever think a tribunal should take EQ from a criminal and be ok with it. Oh well good luck with the next.

Heh, and do you remember why it all started? You wanted the Rod of Conquest, and then didn't want to help me kill the svirf who had it. So I ended up killing him myself (That was a pain to do), and so started our little quarrel. Actually, I think my favorite was spotting you and Muuloc killing Lunn, then my stealing the platemail and leggings as soon as he died. But yes, getting rich off of you was fun as well, heh. Hope you're still doing well, see ya in the Fields.

I did so much stuff to hit Calheil hard. At one point, all that had to happen was three people be logged on at the same time, and you were out of your Bandit King spot, because I had planted 2 Elites in your guild and had another who was going to take your spot after passing you in donations when I gave him seven million copper. But, I kind of felt bad, and I went into surgery and never really pursued it any more. Then I offered the scions 4 million copper for each time they killed you and brought proof, just to break up your alliance with them. I had no way to win fights with you. You always had crap when I saw you, and I'd blackjack you, steal like two potions, and backstab you, when you'd take off. If you got me, you got like eight cool things, all of my weapons, and a good chance to kill me, but you never did. I often thought you dropped everything good you had before we went into fights, which is pretty weak, since we both knew I was risking far more going into any fight anyway, and that last time when you dumped off all my stuff with a low rank guy because you knew I would get it back is pretty weak, especially after I gave you back stuff after you died.
However, we did make good opposites, in Hipsin, the nice guy who everyone likes, and Calheil, the prick who everyone hates. Would have been far more beneficial to you to be Hipsin's friend in the long and short runs, but that's alright.
Ciao,
Grant

Good thing you are gone, I didnt knew you trough out all your life but what brief glimpse I did get I didnt like.

I hate people that throw away a char's role and/or background only to try to ruin a char because he pissed them off.

If I backstabbed you and robbed you blind was because of role, however you took it personally it seems, and didnt care about your character just kept throwing yourself at me didnt care if you died only to at least rob me and atmost get a bunch of people and gang me.

No respect for you,tou I know you dont care. I could understand a thief having to get a gang to kill a warrior or something powerful but to get another thief?,bah.

who gets three or four other Tribunals to come and gang down another thief. Perhaps next time don't come tramping down on Calheil when you do the exact same thing over and over again. When you diss people for doing something but yet you are doing all the same things its called hypocracy, and you have no right to say anything.

Kenimara, Cilera, the Vindicator, and you, = last I checked, 4. *boggle* That doesn't = 2. Case and point being you do it as much as Calheil did. Lastly, your death to him and I was actually equal. Cilera was there with you and we were both wanted. We used our skills to seperate you both out, and killed you. So in actuality it was not even a gang at all. You just seem bitter about the death, and there is no need to taint Calheil's goodbye with this kind of nonsense.

I don't know you or Destripador from Adam, but I'll say this:

In my opinion, there's a difference between Tribunals ganging down criminals and "some random people" ganging down "some other random person".

I disagree. Ganging is ganging. I don't see a difference in ganging because you want to kill criminals, ganging because you want to kill evils, and ganging because you want gear (etc). They're each contrived inventions of your character (hopefully) to fulfill their reason for being. Asking my CE thief to 'understand' why you ganged me down because you 'are a trib and are just doing my job' is non sequitur.

When I become wanted, I assume that I've just pissed off an entire cabal whose job is now to apprehend me at all costs. I've "wronged" them, in a sense, by committing the crime. Four random people who get together so they can score some gear from easy kills on random people they've never met before...somehow that just seems more lame to me.

That still assumes a chaotic character cares at all about the law, or respects the tribunal position as a whole. I can see a stance for a chaotic character where there is no difference between tribunal trying to gang him and anyone else trying to gang him.

I had this same problem as Tcatama with other people in the Fort. I was CG, and as such would fight evil in town. Other members of the Fort encouraged me to 'turn myself in' and were like 'what did you expect?' Because I didn't care anything about the law, the Tribunals in Tcatama's eyes were just people who were trying to kill him, equal to anyone else.

Actually you are the one that seems bitter, and by definition a gang is a bunch of people working together. If you run from galadon to eastern road you will obviously find tribunals in either the city or the road in this case working individually. the only exception was me and kenimara grouping a moment to look for you and calheil on eastern.

Also, I have fought calheil way before you appeard in the scene,I dont even know why you are giving opinions about him or me. Probably because you got bitter after a night or two of fighting.

As I have made my point, yet again, I will try now to not reply to the likes of you(that is ignorant bitter, noones).

I apologize to anyone that had to read this thread and these back and forth of accusations.

Well I knew you with a couple of my characters, One as a young thief in the guild and one as an enemy. In both regards I really liked my interactions with Calheil. I'm not sure if it was by careful design or just how your roleplay evolved, but I always felt like there was something very 'Hamsah' about your personality. Hamsah is sort of the Gritty Desert Town with a seedy undercurrent. Or to me it is anyway. And I always got the impression from you that no matter any deal you would strike you were always out to get a huge upper hand. Or that your dagger wouldn't hesitate to stick into someone's back. The kind of character that even if someone was grouped with you they better watch their back! Anyway, just wanted to I thought your roleplay was great and I enjoyed our fights and interactions.

My only old friend left after my two month hiatus goes and dies the day I get back. I'll miss you, there was a strange kind of bond in the Hamsah guild members (mostly just us two) that made logging on always an adventure.

Anyways, I hope to see you again in another incarnation.

It was more of an annoyance than anything unless you had someone to help you kill me. I liked having someone to fight though...although you were a little craftier than me when it came to killing which is what you should be since you were a binder.

All in all...I had fun...died to you...stole from you. Your fingers must be fat and stubby..or you were just more concerned with killing me that stealing from me. I loved emptying your pockets whenever I got the blackjack before you. It was always a gamble..and sometimes I avoided you at all costs because I wasnt prepared to gamble at that time.

I wont say Im not relieved I wont have to watch my back anymore for you.

See you in the fields.
