Why do so many of the posts say 'deleted' are these people really deleting themselves, or are they just being killed?

They're deleting themselves. It's the most
common way to die. Implagur and Mornig con-died (excellent characters)
recently, and the most recent age-death is
Anterrabae (also excellent) , I believe.
