|
Daerys Aetherstel the Vampyre Lord, Lantern Bearer, Imperial Dread Lord
DescriptionThis vampyre stands towering at just over six feet, his posture a symbol of both grace and an unyielding resilience. His visage, though bearing the contours familiar to those of humanity, is marked with lines that narrate a saga of trials. The narrow black eyes, deep-set within his skull, gleam with an unsettling intensity.
Where once feathers graced his form, now lies a cascade of sleek, dark skin stretched taut across spindly fingers of bonewings transformed into something more sinister. This new, vampiric plumage, if it could still be called that, shimmers under the moonlight, revealing hues of iridescent blues and greens.
His physique is slender, with muscles that whisper of both strength and a predatory litheness. His form is accentuated by talons and claws, no longer pristine but sharp and hooked, promising death to those who dare to cross his path.
Bound to his belt, a simple brass lantern to hum with a somber white flame, a haunting relic on his person.

RoleChapter 10 Death and Rebirth Added Sat Feb 24 20:57:01 2024 at level 51:Daerys's transformation into a Vampyre marked a turning point, a metamorphosis that redefined his existence. In a daring gamble to safeguard the empire's future, he subjected himself to the ancient rites within the hallowed halls of the vampyre cathedral, emerging not as the Arial he once was, but as a creature of the night, reborn.
The change was profound, reshaping not only his physical form but the very fabric of his psyche. A primal hunger for violence supplanted his once-nuanced emotions, casting long shadows over memories he held dear. The past, with its vibrant colors and tender moments, faded into obscurity, leaving only fragmented visions of Talia, his cherished sister. These remnants of a life once lived now flickered dimly, like dying embers, rekindled only by the souls captured by his lantern, her name a haunting echo in the void of his mind.
In battle, Daerys unleashed his fury with a ferocity that bordered on self-destruction. The fear of death, once a stalwart companion, now seemed an alien concept, irrelevant to his new existence. Yet, amidst this whirlwind of chaos and carnage, a singular memory clung stubbornly to the fringes of his consciousnessJoihe. Her image, a beacon of ambition and the promise of untold adventures, pierced the darkness, a reminder of desires that transcended even vampiric thirst.
But what of the lantern, the sole tether to his humanity, to the sister whose love had once been his guiding star? It flickered, a precarious flame in the tempest of his transformation. With each soul it consumed, the light wavered, casting long shadows over the future. How long until the darkness claimed him entirely, erasing the last vestiges of the man who once dreamt of a better life for his sister?
The balance teetered on a knife's edge, the fate of Talia, once the beacon of his every decision, now an uncertain whisper in the gale of his new existence. As the lantern burns, so too does the question: Will Daerys succumb to the void, or will a spark of remembrance endure, a flicker of the bond that once defined him?

RoleChapter 9 Dread Lord Added Sun Feb 18 17:40:36 2024 at level 47:Elevated to the rank of Dread Lord by the Immortal Lords of the Empire, Daerys embraced his title with a fervor that was both exhilarating and daunting. The power bestowed upon him had reshaped the very foundations of the empire, guiding it into an era of prosperity that mirrored the celestial prophecies he had observed. The empire had begun to flourish, and he know it was in no small part because of him. Yet, in the heart of this triumph, the initial quest that had set him on this paththe desire to secure a safe and serene existence for his sisterhad gradually receded into the backdrop of his ambitions.
The pursuit of personal ascension, the thrill of uncharted adventures, and the intoxicating allure of power had consumed Daerys, igniting a turmoil within him. A guilt gnawed at his conscience, a reminder of a time when his sister's well-being was his sole purpose. Now, ensnared by the responsibilities that came with his title, he found his priorities had irrevocably shifted. The simplicity of his earlier quest seemed like a distant memory, overshadowed by the complexities of rule and the unending pursuit of greatness.
Amidst these swirling thoughts, Daerys grappled with a fear that clawed at the edges of his heartthe impending rendezvous with Joihe and Rarywey loomed over him, an event that promised to alter the course of his destiny yet again. He was torn, caught between the longing for what lay ahead and the apprehension of what it might entail. The weight of his decisions, the changes wrought within him, left him wondering whether the girl he once loved, whose spirit flickered within the lantern, would recognize the man he had become. Would she understand the choices he had made, the paths he had walked, or would she see a stranger in his place?
As the stars continued their eternal dance, Daerys stood at the crossroads of his fate, his heart heavy with uncertainty. Only time would unveil the truth of his journey, revealing whether the bonds of the past would hold fast or fray in the face of the trials to come.

|
RoleChapter 8 The Weight of the Lantern Added Sun Feb 18 17:40:14 2024 at level 47:The lantern's flame danced, a beacon in the unyielding darkness that had become Daerys's constant companion. Time stretched on, each moment was a reminder of his enduring vigil. Yet, within the depths of despair, a fragile thread of hope had begun to weave its way into the fabric of his existence. Lady Joihe, enigmatic and boundless in her wisdom, had promised to invoke a favor from Lady Raryweya goddess whose dominion over the dead was well known. This alliance, however, came with a caution as dark as the shadows that clung to Daerys's soul. Joihe's words were clear: the outcome of this entreaty might not align with Daerys's desires.
The prospect was a grim one, casting a pall over the flicker of hope that had ignited within him. The lantern, once a symbol of his unwavering resolve, had grown increasingly burdensome, its light a mocking reminder of the passage of time and the weight of his quest. The realization that he now felt the physical toll of its presence not only deepened Daerys's turmoil but also stirred a profound sense of guilt within him. It was a guilt born of doubta questioning of his own strength and the fear that perhaps his resolve was waning.
Daerys's thoughts wandered through the tangled corridors of his mind, wrestling with the possibilities that lay ahead. Would Rarywey make demands, what would she do? Would the goddess demand a price too steep for even his spirit to bear? And what of the lantern, the keeper of his sister's essencehad its growing weight signaled a shift in the balance of powers, a sign that the very fabric of his quest was fraying at the edges?
Haunted by these questions, Daerys found himself standing at the precipice of uncertainty, the future a vast, uncharted expanse that stretched before him. Yet, amidst the turmoil, his resolve remained unbroken. For within the heart of the darkness, the flame of hope, however dim, continued to burn, a defiant stand against the shadows that sought to engulf him.

RoleChapter 7 The Lantern Flickers Added Fri Feb 9 17:10:46 2024 at level 38:As Daerys observed the lantern, its once-steady glow now flickered erratically, casting shadows that danced with a newfound urgency against the walls. The subtle change was more than a mere anomaly... it was a dire warning. The souls, once a potent source of sustenance for his sister's spirit, now seemed to ebb in their efficacy, their once vibrant energy diminishing to mere whispers of their former selves. It dawned on Daerys that the life force he had been gathering, primarily from lesser beings, was no longer sufficient. The realization struck him with a chilling claritythe need for greater energies was imperative.
To sustain the spirit of his beloved sister, he would need to venture further, to delve deeper into the realms of the living and the dead, seeking entities of significant power. The thought of what this entailed sent a shiver down his spine, for it meant walking a path darker and more perilous than any he had traversed before.
Unbeknownst to Daerys... The consequences of his actions rippled beyond the confines of his immediate surroundings, reaching into the ethereal planes. Energy, mysteriously and steadily, began to seep away from the lantern, tracing a path back to the very graveyard that had been the cradle of his dark journey...

RoleChapter 6 Joining the Cadre Added Fri Feb 9 17:10:22 2024 at level 38:Daerys' conversation with the divine Joihe had stirred questions in his mind, even doubt to his sister's well-being. But beyond that, he wondered what she would think of him now? A necromancer, a member of the black sect of the empire? Would she understand? He could only hope her love would be as undying as her spirit in the lantern.
A new problem presented itself, Joihe demands that those in her Cadre have a useful skillset. To get Joihe's help he had to earn a place among them. But as a homeless orphan who has known only graves and necromancy what talent could he have that could possibly attract a being such as her? It was disheartening, but he knows he must find a way.
The lantern has begun to act different, as if the death he gathers is growing weaker. It seems that as time goes on, the life force gathered from lesser beings will not be enough. Daerys' knew he had to provide greater energies.
Somewhere beyond Daerys' life, beyond his sight, energy flowed away from the lantern, back to the graveyard...
In the wake of his conversation with the divine entity Joihe, a tumult of questions and doubts began to stir within Daerys. His mind wandered to his sister, ensnared within the confines of a lantern, her spirit suspended between realms. How would she perceive the choices he had made, the paths he had walked? He had delved deep into the shadowy arts of necromancy and aligned himself with the Empire's darkest sect. Would she understand the necessity of his actions, the depth of his desperation? He clung to the hope that her love for him remained as undying as the spirit he sought to save, a beacon in the night guiding him through his darkest moments.
Yet, as he contemplated his place within Joihe's adventurous cadre, a new challenge presented itself. Joihe demanded that her followers possess skills that contribute to the family, skills born of a life rich in experience and exploration. But what could he, a necromancer raised in the shadows of graves, offer to a being as illustrious as her? His life had been one of solitude, his talents honed in the company of the dead. The realization was disheartening, casting a shadow over his resolve.
Yet, the determination that had carried him this far ignited within him once more, a stubborn flame in the face of despair. He knew he must uncover a talent, a skill that could bridge the gap between his world and Joihe's, to earn a place among her cadre and secure her aid for his sister.

|
RoleChapter 5 The Lantern Added Mon Feb 5 22:25:21 2024 at level 9:He turned to find a shadowy spectre, reaching out slowly in a vain attempt of comfort. After a moment of silence it whispered again 'I can help you.... She still lives, but only for fleeting moments... I can... place her spirit into this lantern, and as long as it is alit, she was survive.'
As Daerys stood in the graveyard, the weight of the spectre's proposition heavy upon his heart, he watched the shadowy figure extend a hand towards him, an eerie gesture of consolation in the midst of despair. The spectre's voice, a mere whisper in the chilling air, offered a sliver of hope, yet it was a hope entwined with darkness. The idea of trapping his sister's spirit within a lantern was both macabre and miraculous, a solution that defied the natural order of life and death.
"How can she survive in a lantern, spectre?" Daerys asked, his voice a mix of incredulity and desperation. The notion was unfathomable, yet the flicker of life within Talia, however diminished, compelled him to grasp at any possibility.
"Her body is dying... I cannot help that... but we can preserve her essence until we find another way to help her. But be wary, there is a price," the spectre intoned, its voice carrying the weight of untold ages and the sorrow of countless souls.
"Then do it, spectre, please! I'll do anything!" Daerys's plea was raw, the prospect of losing Talia a fate he could not accept.
The spectre nodded, and in that moment, Talia's body turned gaunt and gray, her vitality ebbing away. Simultaneously, a lantern perched upon a nearby headstone flickered to life, its flame dancing with an otherworldly glow. "Take it. She is there now... but understand this: only life can sustain life. For her to survive, you must take life from others. If you fail, she will perish with the flame."
The enormity of the spectre's condition settled upon Daerys like a shroud. To bind his sister's spirit to the lantern was one thing, to sustain her with the lives of others was a burden of a wholly different nature. He remained stunned, the implications of his choice unraveling before him in a tapestry of moral quandaries.
"She is as before, your responsibility. I will return, in time," the spectre intoned, its form beginning to fade from view, leaving Daerys alone with the lantern, the sole tether to his sister's existence.
Turning to the lantern, Daerys saw Talia's face within the flames, her expression serene yet distant, as if she dwelled in a realm beyond his reach. "I... I'm so sorry, sister. I'll make it right... no matter what I have to do."
With the spectre's departure, Daerys felt a change within himself, a dark awakening. The path of necromancy, once a mere fascination, now beckoned as a necessity. The arts of the dead, forbidden and feared, held the key to sustaining the lantern's flame, to keeping Talia's spirit alive. He accepted the spectre's condition, the price of his sister's life bound to the essence

RoleChapter 4 The Offer Added Mon Feb 5 22:24:39 2024 at level 9:Then, he found her, a small form huddled beneath a layer of fallen snow, her stillness a silent scream that pierced the night. Talia was cold, too cold, her skin pale and lifeless beneath his trembling hands. The realization that he might have lost the only family he had left sent him spiraling into despair, his actions becoming a frenzied attempt to revive her, to restore the warmth that had been stolen by the night's cruel whims.
It was in the midst of his despair, as he cradled Talia's lifeless form, that a voice sliced through the silence, chilling in its clarity. "Your sorrow, I can feel it..." The voice was raspy and deep, imbued with a power that seemed to resonate with the very air around him.
Daerys froze, his heart hammering in his chest, the fear of loss momentarily overshadowed by the presence of something otherworldly. Slowly, he lifted his gaze from his sister, searching the darkness for the source of the voice. It seemed to emanate from everywhere and nowhere, a spectral whisper that hung in the cold air.
"Who are you?" Daerys demanded, his voice laced with both fear and defiance. "What do you want from us?"
The air shifted, the darkness coalescing into a form that was both indistinct and ominously present. "I am a keeper of this place, drawn to the sorrow that blankets these grounds. Your pain, your fear... it calls to me."
Daerys held Talia closer, his protective instincts flaring. "Help her, then. If you can feel my sorrow, if you're really a part of this place, then save her!"
The entity seemed to consider his plea, the silence stretching between them like a chasm. "There is a price for such things. All acts of power require balance. What would you give to see her breathe again?"
Without hesitation, Daerys replied, "Anything. Everything. Just bring her back to me."
The voice, now imbued with a somber weight, responded, "Very well. But remember, the balance must be maintained. Your path will change, as will hers. Are you prepared for that which lies ahead?"
Daerys didn't need to think. "Yes," he affirmed, his resolve steeling. "I'll do whatever it takes."

|
RoleChapter 3 The Chill Added Mon Feb 5 22:24:10 2024 at level 9:"Talia," he said one evening as they prepared to settle down for the night, his voice low and tinged with concern, "do you ever feel... uneasy here? At night?"
Talia looked up at him, her brow furrowed in thought. "Sometimes," she admitted, "it feels like we're not alone. Like the graveyard is holding its breath, watching us."
Daerys nodded, his suspicions confirmed. "I've felt it too. There's something here with us, something not of the living. I thought it was just my imagination, but if you're feeling it too..."
He trailed off, uncertain. The rational part of him wanted to dismiss the feeling as a trick of the mind, the product of spending too much time in a place surrounded by death. But another part, the part that had always been attuned to the stories and spirits of the past, couldn't shake the feeling that they were being drawn into something far beyond their understanding.
"We should be careful," he finally said, his protective instincts for Talia overriding his curiosity. "Maybe it's time we found a different place to stay, just for a while. Until I can figure out what's happening here."
Talia nodded, her usual vivacity tempered by the seriousness of the moment. "Okay, Daerys. I trust you. But," she added, a determined glint in her eyes, "let's not go too far. This place, it's still a part of us. Whatever's happening, we'll face it together, like we always do."
On the third night of their unintended sojourn in the graveyard, an ominous change swept through the air, manifesting in a dream that plunged Daerys into a darkness so profound it seemed to swallow the very essence of light. He was ensnared in a nightmare filled with screams that clawed at his mind, echoes of terror that resonated with an unsettling familiarity. When he finally broke free from the chains of sleep, it was to a world transformed by an unnatural cold, a bitter chill that seeped into his bones. The night around him was shrouded in a blanket of snow, an aberration in a season that had not yet whispered the arrival of winter.
Frantically, Daerys called out for Talia, his voice a desperate thread in the silent expanse of the graveyard. But there was no answer, only the hollow echo of his own fear. Panic surged through him, a torrent that threatened to drown his senses as he realized his sister was missing. The tranquility of their chosen haven had been shattered, replaced by a foreboding that clenched his heart with icy fingers.
He began to search, his movements frantic, carving paths through the snow that now blanketed the graves, a stark contrast to the lush greenery that had cradled them in slumber. Time lost meaning as he called her name, each shout a beacon of hope that she would respond.

RoleChapter 2 The Presence Added Mon Feb 5 22:23:33 2024 at level 9:As twilight descended upon the graveyard, casting long shadows across the meticulously tended graves, Daerys and Talia found themselves in the midst of a conversation that seemed to draw them closer, binding them with threads of shared dreams and silent promises. The air around them was cooler, filled with the scent of earth and the lingering fragrance of wildflowers they had placed on the graves earlier.
"This place," Talia murmured, her voice a soft echo in the vastness of the graveyard, "it's so much better than our cavern. It's peaceful here, almost like the world outside doesn't reach this far."
Daerys nodded, his eyes scanning the horizon where the sun's last light fought against the creeping shadows. "I know, Tal. It's the one place where I feel... right. But it's not a home. Not really. I'll get us out of that cavern, I promise. We'll find somewhere better, somewhere we can truly call home."
Talia's eyes, wide and filled with the innocence of youth, met his. "Do we have to leave the graveyard, though? I like sleeping on the grass. It's like the earth itself is hugging me." Her words, simple and heartfelt, tugged at Daerys's heart.
For a few days, they did just thatmaking the graveyard their temporary refuge. They slept under the stars, cloaked in the serenity of the night, surrounded by the silent guardianship of the graves. It was a bittersweet respite from the harsh realities of their daily struggle for survival.
However, as the nights passed, Daerys began to sense an unsettling shift in the atmosphere. The peaceful silence of the graveyard was gradually suffused with an undercurrent of something darker, an almost tangible presence that turned the night air cold and filled it with whispers that seemed to slip just beyond the edge of understanding. At first, he thought it was the wind, or perhaps his imagination, fueled by the stories of spirits and the dead he had always been drawn to.
But the feeling persisted, growing stronger with each passing night. It was as if the graveyard itself was changing, becoming something other, something not entirely at peace. Daerys would wake from uneasy dreams to the sound of whispers that seemed to echo in the hollows of his mind, voices without words, insistent and impossible to ignore.

|
RoleChapter 1 A Life Amongst the Dead Added Mon Feb 5 22:22:28 2024 at level 9:"Daerys, look!" The voice, light as the breeze that danced through the leaves, belonged to Talia, his younger sister. She emerged from between the gravestones, her arms cradling an array of wildflowers, their vibrant colors stark against the monochrome of the graveyard. In her eyes gleamed the innocence and wonder that Daerys had fought so hard to preserve in this harsh world they called home.
He turned, a smile breaking through the mask of concentration. "What have you found now?" he asked, his voice gentle, the rough edges of his daily existence softened in her presence.
Talia rushed to him, her excitement palpable. "Flowers, Daerys! Look how beautiful they are!" She held them out to him, an offering of light in their dim world. "I thought... maybe we could put them on the graves, make them pretty for the spirits."
Daerys knelt beside her, examining the flowers. "They're perfect, Tal," he said. "You've put alot of effort into this, let's do that. The spirits will appreciate it, I'm sure." His work as a groundskeeper, a role he had taken to both out of necessity and a genuine respect for the dead, had nurtured in him a belief in the importance of honoring those who had passed on. It was a belief he cherished, a sliver of nobility in a life otherwise mired in moral ambiguity.
Despite his affinity for the spirits and the dead, Daerys was acutely aware of the contradictions that defined his life. Orphaned and thrust into the responsibility of caring for Talia, he had navigated the underbelly of society with a pragmatism that left little room for ethics. Theft, scavengingsurvival had dictated a code of conduct far removed from the reverence he showed the departed.
Yet, as he watched Talia tenderly place flowers on a weathered tombstone, her face alight with a mixture of reverence and joy, Daerys felt the stirrings of hope. Hope that perhaps there was a path forward, one that didn't rely on the shadows they had known all too well. Working in the graveyard had offered him a glimpse of that patha way to forge a life of meaning, not just for himself but for Talia too.
"We're doing something good, aren't we, Daerys?" Talia asked, her voice tentative, seeking affirmation.
Daerys placed his hand on her shoulder, his gaze sweeping across the graves they had adorned with flowers. "Yes, Tal, we are," he said, his voice firm with conviction. "We're giving them a bit of beauty, a reminder that they're not forgotten. And maybe, just maybe, we're finding our way too."
