Chapter 6

Motes of magic hung heavily in the air. Joihe's cabin swirled like the Island
of the Nexus. The elf curiously, but cautiously, stared across the bar at him.
Though a safe place, the tension of a lineage of animosity was palpable, elf
and fire giant, eying one another.

But a driving desire of revelation compelled each forward. Arinayar, Cardinal
of the Fortress. Mormeth, Diviner of the Stars.

The elf laid out the cards in a grid of threes. The choice of which to turn
over was to Mormeth.

Card 1. Ice. The Lovers. Temptation yet commitment.

"Peculiar." the elf stated, curiosity creasing her face. "Temptation.
But balance."

Card 2. Lightning. The Magician. Power and fury. Chaotic.

"Very appropriate." The elf continued, "and very, very interesting.
Power, and fury, and chaos."

Upon the deck of the wanderlust bar, the night seemingly dimmed another
level and the shadows loomed longer in the shadows cast. Th buzz of
magic grew louder, too, rivaling the chorus of insects of a summer
night.

"A powerful combination." She stated, and leveled her gaze between the
cards and Mormeth.

Card 3. Spirit. The Star. Joihe's sphere, her realm.

The elf gasped, her face marked by astonishment. The magic rippled visibly,
like the shockwave of distant thunder.

"That, cannot be coincidence. Faith. Hoping to achieve the future you seek.
But, more. A perfect tie to the prior. A very potent draw."

She continued on, explaining a bit more to the possibilities. The universe
in support of him, of his unique talents to manifest the deepest of desires
into existence, and the importance of intuition guiding him. Like the night
star beckoning in the expanse of night.

The magic was mesmerizing, intoxicating. It was purer than that of the
guilds, a craft attuned to the beyond.

But Mormeth knew it before. He knew this revelation would come. He knew it
within, and relished all the more that another realized it now too. The
markings, true, the prophecies, unfolding, the pathway, widening.

He could barely contain the eclipsing grin upon his face in front of this
elf...

Chapter 5

Exiled jailor of Kiadana Rah. Bully, delights in pain and death. Friendless.
Sees patterns where they may or may not exist. Questions things beyond his
understanding, or anyones. But thinks himself capable to unravel the mysteries
of it all. Convinced he is special and bears a marking of significance. Whether
he does or doesnt is irrelevant because of the surety of his own conviction.

Sought purpose, pursued a variety of things to reveal meaning. Illumination
came in the form of mystifying hallucinations. Is he the devourer? But what is
the purpose of death across the planes? This he is driven to understand, to find
the meaning behind the curtain.

He seeks the Scion for their devotion to the forbidden magics and their
understanding of divination, to which he is born under such an influence
and longing. Only they have the wherewithal to discovery and discovery.

He will also come to understand there is a Cadre, of Joihe, similarly prone
to such pursuits, and will come to give praise for this revelation and further
illumination.

Chapter 4

Emerging from the hallucinogenic haze, Mormeth a new purpose in this revival. Called
to the forbidden arts, he embarked on a quest to harness the power of souls, hoping
to divine the meaning of death itself.

Joining forces with the anti-paladin guild, Mormeth delved into the dark arts. Rumors
of greater power yet compelled him to seek the Chasm of the Scion, to discover its
shadowy magics and esoteric knowledge of divination.

Driven by a voracious thirst for understanding, Mormeth ventured deeper into the
shadows, his quest for enlightenment intertwined with the pursuit of darkness,
searching for answers that lay within the realms of ancient secrets and forbidden magic.

Chapter 3

Finding no escape, Mormeth turned to more provocative pursuits to see beyond
the walls of his jail, or at least find relief.

The vistani kept unusual, forbidden psychedelics from the lush swamps. So
the giant consumed.

His pursuit found his spirit projecting at the edge of Veran.

Visions soon coalesced, of decaying fruit waiting to be plucked, of tormented
and grossly large plants withing on the ground, and creatures buzzing in the
air, seemingly sentient. Words echoed from within a nearby cavern, fearfully
preaching, but the words were like midnight winds into some starred abyss, and
such remained out of reach from his addled thoughts. Soon the wearied
travelers' fire burned to nothingness as if purging his prior personhood.

The psychedelic effects of the mushrooms catapulted Mormeth from his present
darkness.

A new vision took hold, this one perfectly clear. A void formed in front of him.
Motes of light fluttered from the vibrant life around him, drawn unwillingly to
the abyss. Cosmic darkness roiled around the misshapen sphere, growing larger and
larger as it consumed the colors around. Abyssal energy unwillingly danced before
his eyes, swirling like a maelstrom, drawing in the light and enveloping everything
in an insatiable void.

Within the void a presence stood staring back at him, shimmering and monochromatic.
It was his reflection, yet fouler and pure, and a host of minions at his back.

Mesmerized and overwhelmed by the revelations, Mormeth found himself grappling
with existential questions, pondering the essence of death and its true
significance in the grand tapestry of existence.

"What is the meaning of," the thought suddenly lodged in his head,
giving him pause, "Death?"

Chapter 2

Desperate to make sense of this turmoil and upheaval, he sought answers far
and wide. The exiled giant wandered tenaciously. From veiled mists and mysterious
islands, to dark churches and covens of the occult, to the city slums where any
pleasure may be purchased, he rushed fully in. While the lands teemed with questions
in search of answers, and answers in need of questions, nothing sparked revelation
of his place in it all.

He prayed to the divine. He devoured the texts of the enlightened. He reveled in
the shape and patterns of the stars. Nothing satisfied, and soon an image took
residency in his mind.

His entire being was held captive within the prison cells he once kept guard. The
jailor, the prisoner, the same.

This vision stole his sight from any other and he had no resolve.

Chapter 1

The giant paused, staring at his palm. He saw it, even if no one else
seemed convinced. He saw the sign, imprinted upon his hands, mirroring
each other. It was an omen. It was certainty.

It was the Tailed Star. Upheaval.

The resistance beneath him brought back his focus. He knelt with one knee on
the neck of the prisoner, this emissary sent from Loch Terradian, and leaned
hard. The other fire giant patrollers stared in astonishment at his brutal
disobedience. They did not like him, the jailor of Kiadana. No one did.
When King Rah makes his order though, wanting the prisoner alive, they obey.
But this one doesnt, not all the time. They rushed in, shoving him aside to
preserve the last few breaths of the stormborn.

The provocateur rose to his feet, emotions swirling about. It wasn't just the
rage, the spite, which marred his face now. No, it was deep, unsettling
curiosity. He looked at his hands again and grinned.

This disobedience proved the last straw. Despite his formidable potential,
the unreliable and chaotic tendencies were too much. Mormeth was excommunicated
from Kiadana, unwelcome in the Kings halls ever again.
