Bilgritik Grummeltuff the Bearer of the Emerald Oak, Dwarven Defender of Thar-Eris
DescriptionA man of unusual proportions is here. His height is most definitely that of a dwarf, standing nearly four feet tall, but he is not nearly as thick as many dwarfs. A scrawny and malnourished dwarf with a distended belly for sure. His neck and arms are saplings compared to many other dwarfs trunk like appendages. Also, his gaunt face is broad, with a broader nose that speaks to his ties of the Dwarven Kingdoms. Dirt smudges are seen all over him, and grime can be seen in the corners of his eyes and caked beneath his nails. Another thing tying him to his dwarven heritage is his impressive beard, though unkept and like a waterfall of moss and lichen from his chin.Specks of black and gold fleck his skin, as freckles upon a stony countenance of granite. But for his seemingly weak appearance, he stands erect with an air of power cracking from his very being.

RoleChapter 8 Chaos' Piece of the Puzzle. Added Wed Jan 27 21:05:47 2016 at level 51:Surpised to see him again, the Greenhoof welcomed the Son of the Stone back to the surface, and appraised him of the plans that had been set into motion. There was to be a Ritual at the Scar, and with the rest of the Tree, Bilgritik was invited to be present. Unsure of what this ritual would produce and in the presence of the Reavers, Bilgritik wearily accepted.
The Full Moon stood firm in the west against the Rising Sun in the East in the predawn of the Equinox. The gathered lent their life's force to Strienat as he called upon their bodies and souls to power this to heal Thar Eris. The Shackles, The Scroll, and The Seed were placed on the scourged land, to be quickly consumed by it. The Winds howled in support of the gathering, lending the Breath of Thar Eris herself.
And yet, the Spider cackled. 'Such little blood for such a strong ritual.' Knowing his time was nigh and remembering the vision of Nordiach, the Dwarf entered the center of the Circle. Not even a heart beat passed before being beset by the Spider. Reacting, the Reavers entered the fray, and a few Sentinels believing this was Thar Eris' will volleyed arrows at the stalwart son of Nordiach.
In desperation, Bilgritik's friend from his first days upon the surface, dashed through the melee to provide aid. Hurriedly, Gwildaththea scooped the first healing herbs she could find and rushed to apply them in haste to the beset dwarf. And yet, as the herbs contacted his open wounds, it was not healing that happened, rather it was the fatal blow to the Dwarf.
His ghost rising from his fallen body, the wisdom of Thar Eris hit him. Chaos, as the Greenhoof had spoken. The meaning of Chaos in Life and Creation rung true in his mind, body, and soul.

RoleChapter 7 Absence from the Surface. Added Wed Jan 27 20:52:56 2016 at level 51:Absent from the surface, or even near enough to the surface to be called the Underdark for much time, Bilgritik followed the caverns of black glass into the depths where stone itself was birthed. It was here the Song of the Earth, Song of Creation, the Song of Thar Eris echoed in his body and soul.
He slumbered here for some time, fraught with dreams of the Cycle of Creation being disrupted. The undead walked freely, or so they claimed. Their feeble bodies only buying time against the call of the Stone to return. It was here too, that another vision of Nordiach returned to him. This time, the behemoth patron of Dwarves awoke in rage and slumber. Molten Eyes glared at the Last of Grummelhall as he bellowed.
"Upon the surface, blood of my blood, you are needed. The Ancients gather to heal their wood, yet how can it be so if the stone it draws life from still bears its scar? Their trees and grass will only harbor hatred if the water they drink is as foul as poison. A time will come, when one of my own must make a decision, whether the Stone is to be healed, or if the Taint is to stand. Many have labored the most ardently, and yet their efforts will be for naught, if the ground is not made sacred."
Abruptly awakened, Bilgritik hastened to the Surface, to find a most sacred Ritual soon to take place.

RoleChapter 6 Decades passed. Added Wed Jan 27 20:50:14 2016 at level 51:As Bilgritik grew in stature and age, so did his insights and wisdom. Decades had transpired since his second audience with the Guardian of the Summer Grove. He had come to the Grove with questions, yet left with conclusions that he, himself had made. The mere presence of the Greenhoof let the insights bubble forth as a fountain from its depths.
But again, the Greenhoof left him a question to ponder. 'Take some time and tie the Forces of Chaos into both Life and Creation.' he posed. They then discussed the Tree, many of whom whose guidance had helped Bilgritik on his Journey. It was to be the Ancients decision, not the decision of the Greenhoof if he would ever find company and solace in the Tree of Life's Branches.
As the time trudged forward, Bilgritik went about shaping creation, and in his wake life had sprung. It was the Cycle that he was beholden to, as trees were uprooted from the quaking stone, grasses, sedges, shrubs, quickly filled where their canopies had shaded out Life. As quickly as the flora returned, so to did much more fauna, finding these edge habitats places of great abundance.
As he traveled the surface though, he felt something pulling at his soul, the Stones called his blood, and he could not resist but answer.

RoleChapter 5 Prayers Answered and Quandaries. Added Sat Nov 21 21:33:04 2015 at level 25:Bilgritik spent much time in the Ancient's Grove, before the Young Oak Tree. He watched the denizens of this summer home, Ilke and Dryads, Sprites and foxes. He contemplated the meaning of this oak before him, and the shelter it provided this place. It was one of these days of quiet meditation that the Ancient Strienat revealed himself to dwarf.
Even though the Ancient represented Thar Eris, he seemed to care not of a dwarf in front of him. He listened to the story Bilgritik wove, attentive to it as if it came from any other. Even more, as they discussed the Sticks and Stones, the Ancient must have deemed Bilgritik's path worthy, for he blessed it with a piece of himself. But Strienat also challenged this dwarf.
"It is hard to find a way to create life when your power is directed towards Destruction." He cautioned. "How will you work to further creation of life in this world." the Ancient said. "As well as how your thoughts on creation work alongside the forces of vivimancy, natural life."
It is these preponderances Bilgritik took forward with him into the world to contemplate.

RoleChapter 4 Insights of Sticks and Stones. Added Fri Nov 13 12:40:46 2015 at level 19:Years passed as Bilgritik wandered the surface, and subsurface of Thera. He meandered through the caverns and crypts, cities and forests alike. One day he came upon a hidden Grove, deep within the heart of the Amaranthian Forest. He looked about him wearily at the sights of life and wonder within. Dryads danced, and flames burned, yet left not a scorch upon leave or branch. Water danced, as if raining from the ground up.
It was here, he came upon a sight he had searched long for. A young oak sprouted from the center of the glade. Slowly and deliberately he made his way to it, circling it, inhaling its earthy scents. With grubby fingers, he traced the bark and how it emulated the peaks and valleys of the earth. He looked at the displaced ground where it sprouted, and the connection was made.
Like all things, our roots are in the ground. Without it to stand upon, to draw from, existence could not be. From the earth, all things come, and all things return.

RoleChapter 3 Finding a way: Insights of the Academy Added Mon Nov 9 18:22:00 2015 at level 4:As Bilgritik neared the surface, the crevice he followed opened into the depths of the Academy. Weary from is journey, yet livened by the Song in his heart, he leered carefully around each and every corner. Where he came from, was fraught with dangers, many of which he was blissfully unaware of. The Song of the Earth lulled duergar to slumber, and led dark elves astray. It lead him wearily around clouds of spores, deadly to even the heartiest of Thera.
But it was here the Song eased in his heart, to a faint whisper, and his sense returned to him fully. It was here he saw the wonders of Thera in Murals and in texts, tapestries, and other ornamentations he learned of the political battles waged upon the surface. He learned of many oddities that would seem commonplace to any Overlander. Trees, he never saw stand upright before, only upside down in their tendrils reaching ever deeper. Leaves were a new concept, as before only fungal colonies inhabited their deepest branches.
It was also here he learned of the religions of the Surface. Before the Spheres of Thera he found his calling. He knew that Nordiach called those in his image to be shapers of the world. But it was also here that he found another Ancient, one awakened that also urged the world to grow, but instead of through the base upheaval of minerals, but in the living world. It was now that Bilgritik decided, that perhaps this Ancient would give him insight into the meaning of the Earth's Song, grant him perspective on Nordiach, and find his calling in Thera.

RoleChapter 2 Finding a way: Visions of Nordiach. Added Mon Nov 9 13:39:19 2015 at level 1:Before Bilgritik was released from his earthen home, the Earth Song in his soul. It sang of the origins of his people, the kingdom of dwarves. It sang of how no hammer would take him where he would go, no pick would return him to the surface. Only by following the seams and folds of the earth, becoming one with his Heritage as his Gramps did, would he find a way out. He followed these tunnels and cracks, the moist air in them moved, and finally the gusts turned to great a great roar, inconsistent, and raspy. It was here, he came across a great sleeping being.
Bilgritik noticed that this being, looked much like a dwarf, only enormous, a true behemoth. His great nostrils exhaled, and the tempests buckled the rock ceiling, raising it. When he turned in his earthen earthen bed, the stones themselves shook and fell. Dripping from the corner of his mouth, molten lava trickled as drool, forming a great pool about him, yet it never singed his coal black beard.
This was the first time in ages any had witnessed the Ancient Nordiach, placed to slumber by the Lord of Order in times before the dawn of Thera. In a great fit, Nordiach spun with rage in his slumber, and his great molten eyes opened but for a brief moment locking with Bilgritik's.
Bilgritik had a great revelation. It was in Nordiach's image that he and all dwarfs were created, yet not in temperament. The Behemoth had shaped the world not by the artisan's chisel and careful precision that dwarfkind were renowned for. No, the crags and cliffs of the surface were formed by violent upheaval and chaos of the depths.
To know the Earth's Song, was to know Nordiach. To know Nordiach, was to be more than his image, but to bring the powers of shaping and creation to the surface.

RoleChapter 1 The Story of Grummeltuff and the Song of the Earth. Added Mon Nov 9 13:37:33 2015 at level 1:The Grummeltuff family is one, not of usual dwarven heritage. Gramps, as we revere our elders, the first Grummeltuff was a miner, one of great renown in the Dwarven kingdom of Akan. He could pick and hammer like no dwarf before, and some say, no dwarf since. He dug so deep, he heard the song of the Earth, He set down his pick and laid his hammer down, and followed the cracks and crevices even deeper. Crazy, is what all the other dwarfs called it.
He made his home there, far beneath the deepest mines of Akan, some even say deeper than the Underdark itself. He brought his wife there, and his extended family, promising their souls to be nourished from the Earth, herself.
As with many great dwarven excursions, the Earth chose to keep her children. A great quake shook the tunnels of Grummelhall, and cut their tunnels to the surface. Severing their ties to their food and forage, years passed, with only mushrooms and the rock itself to support these dwarfs. But as they grew weak in body, the Song of the Earth rung true in their souls. Generations passed to feed from the Earth this way, until the last of them, Bilgritik was alone within the Earth.
It was this last son of Grummeltuff who the Earth held deep in her bosom, and decided released to bear witness to the Song of the Earth.
