Chapter 4

The summary continues:
Out of respect for his Lord, he holds a certain respect for Villagers. He
will still kill them mercilessly as long as the War holds, that is true, but
he will likely try to establish side relationships that will benefit him
personally. Either by establishing a trade situation by arranging payment for
the deaths of magi he dislikes or other less tangible means.

In this vein, he has established a working relationship with Trekberg. He
does not trust Trekberg in the slightest, but he sees orcs as useful tools
and Trekberg, for the time being, is more powerful than him and could
potentially be a financial backer for his ascension in the Empire.

Duvlek wants to know all he can, so he is keen to establish working
relationships. The more people trust him, the more they divulge to him, the
more he knows, the clearer his path.

In short, Duvlek is playing the political game, always trying to arrange the
best possible outcome for himself. His personality outwardly is warm, funny,
and hopefully endearing for now. As he grows and garners respect he will
become more business like, for even in his jokes and bows of his head he is
always scheming for the next step toward his victory.

Chapter 3

This is a brief list of things Duvlek holds true, his beliefs that guide his
actions.

Duvlek is surprisingly straightforward, he thinks that you must be
trustworthy and believable so you can conceal what counts. He also thinks
concealing is not as cut and dry as literally hiding something. The way he
fights, to lure his opponents into thinking they are winning, is a way of
concealment to him. Furthermore, he talks a lot about the one Victory. This
is very important to him, truly, but he also means to imply that he was born
under the sphere of Victory, so that he seems more straightforward and
trustworthy to those who overhear him. He's not lying, Victory is his
endgoal. But he's lying about the way he truly intends to achieve it.

In a slight correlation to this, Duvlek realizes that he does not worship an
Imperial Lord. He respects the Imperial Lords immensely, and places them
highly, but they are not his sovereign. He bows to Verathi. However, he
intends to be very warm and friendly to not only his superiors in the Empire,
but also his equals. Yes, your equals cannot exercise power over you...but
they could, and it is good to cull favor early. Once he has more power, he
will treat his lessers with more disdain, but he will likely still favor
promising lesser Imperials. The promising ones never stay lessers for long,
they will soon be equals. Until Duvlek arises to the Throne, of course.

Duvlek's end goal is to become Emperor. He left the position of Prince in
Aran'gird, sacrificing everything to start over from scratch. But he is not
interested in carving out merely a good life for himself. He intends to trade
up, and the only way he can see to trade up from being a Prince is to become
High Priest, and ultimately, Emperor.

Chapter 2

Which was just what Duvlek planned. Taking with him years of studying all he
could about the Underdark and the paths to the topside he managed to survive
and ended up scrabbling his way to the top. Though, it felt like hell at
first as his body adapted to the sun. He ended up crawling his way from the
Underdark into the forested area near the Keep of Righteousness. Quickly, he
had to retreat from those righteous Paladins and he ended up in the sprawling
metropolis of Hamsah Mu'Tazz.

From there, he lived as a beggar for a few years, supplementing what he had
read about Thera with Hamsah Mu'tazz's own extensive library and time living
on the streets of Hamsah Mu'tazz. He tried to travel abroad from time and
time and throughout his travels he became enraptured with the Empire. A place
where if you are able, it seemed, you could seize all the power there is to
take.

Finally, on one of his travels he came across the Enclave near Arkham and he
could not stop thinking about his brief peek at the smuggler outside the
Inlet, who Duvlek was positive was not some smuggler. Something Duvlek could
relate to as he was a Prince living as a beggar. Ultimately Duvlek returned
to Hamsah Mu'tazz and devoured all he could about the Enclave of Verathi
before deciding to take what small talents he had picked up in being a
cleric's son and applying them to studies in the Shaman's guild. He saw the
path before him clearly now. The way to his goal was through proving his
worth to Verathi and becoming a strong Priest, then he could ascend the ranks
of the Empire and ultimately take the power that could never have been his in
Aran'gird.

Chapter 1

Duvlek was the promising son of one of the King's cousins down in Aran'gird.
The King's cousin was the one of the highest ranking clerics and the young
prince Duvlek was destined to follow in his footsteps. Although Duvlek was
royalty and had the easy life of a prince set up for him it, Duvlek is not a
complacent personality. He is driven. Duvlek thought there was more to life
than living in the caves.

He wanted to go to the surface to spread his influence across the greater
reaches of Thera. This is because he is pretty far back from the throne in
Aran'gird and wanted a chance at some real power instead of simply being a
ceremonial royal paper weight. But he quickly learned that neither the King
nor Duvlek's father would agree for a member of the royal family to head to
the surface. The royal family thought there would be too much risk in sending
one of their own topside, not to mention that it would destabilize the line
for the throne so Duvlek had to get creative.

He turned what power he did have to arrange a meeting with every foreign
dignitary that passed through, and he ravaged the library for any books about
the topside and more importantly maps to the topside. Often times
confiscating what maps the foreign dignitaries had on them and copying them
for himself. Finally, when he believed he was truly ready Duvlek put his plan
into action. He falsified documents that he was planning a revolution and let
it fall into the King's hands.

It was a daring gamble, since execution was a very real possibility. However,
it was a calculated gamble. Duvlek's father did not want a public execution
of his son. It would make the King's clan look weak if they couldn't even
keep their own sons in line. As such, Duvlek was instead exiled. Quietly, and
unceremoniously tossed out into the Underdark, the official story was that
the young prince was sent to the topside as an envoy of the royal family.
Unofficially, everyone assumed Duvlek was dead.
