Kaplanov Dashiel the Initiate of the Old Ways, Vindicator of the Blood Tribunal

Chapter 11

I was born Kaplanov Dashiel in the village of Blackclaw. My first
memories of life are of convicts, criminals, and runaways.
I may have been young, but I understood it was no was to live.
As a litter, we would have to take shifts staying awake to alert
the others if there was a break-in. The robberies got worse and
worse. They finally one of the robberies turned fatal. Two of
my brothers were killed by the thieves, and left me to what they
thought was my death. Instead left me with this scar on
the back of my head, and a head full of bad memories.
It was that day that I vowed to move to a safe, protected
city. A city where children can sleep at night and not
have to stand guard. It was that day that I decided my calling
in life is to fight for law and order. And above all, bring
justice to those who have not been served.

Chapter 10

I have not picked up a pen since my first journal entry. The death of our
dear Provost upsets me like nothing else. Lemath was the best friend, and best
Provost that a simple cat from Blackclaw could ever know. I have not feared
much in my long life, but now I fear loneliness more than anything.
I must find some way to rid my mind of these thoughts. As I write this feeling,
a thought comes to mind. A certain sifaka lemur would tell me to forget my worries
and pick up my spear.

Chapter 9

I do not know why, but my pen beckons me to write. Earlier in life, the only
inanimate object that ever whispered my name was my spear. I feel I have seen enough
now that I can reflect upon things with a clear mind, and healthy bias.
When I was inducted into the Spire, our Provost was evil. Next the Provost was
as holy and good as can be. And our past Provost, and my dear friend, walked the grey.
At this point I seek to better understand how each Provost's allignment effected
how they led the Spire. And how the decisions they made were reflected by their
stance. I may never know what constitutes a great leader, but in the meantime
pondering this question can fill my mind.

Chapter 8

I have heard many different arguments for and against the Spire's relationship with
Empire. Vindicator Odrirg has harsh words for them, to say the least. Evils in the
Spire have no reason to not enjoy an alliance. And then there are those of us who
are torn. I have never been wronged by any Citizen in my long life, and I doubt I
ever would be attacked by one. As I write, they guard the Fetish and Sceptre,
allowing us Magistrates to stand guard over cities, instead of defending the Spire.
On the other hand, I can't help but feel we need a friendly relationship with the fortress
as well. Only time will tell what is best.

Chapter 7

Odrirg's constant rants about Empire worry me. It seems as if he has grown to hate
Empire's view of Order, instead of embracing and loving our Order. Not that he
does not do a wonderfull job, I just wonder if it is good that he is so obsessed
and passionate about waging war with Citizen's beliefes. I hope his hatred is not
his downfall. He is the oldest friend I have left.

Chapter 6

Today, Manden the Steadfast Blade of the Spire was promoted to Provost. I do
not know him that well, but I suspect he will be a great leader. I gave him
his recommendation when he was very young, and nothing would please me
more than having him be a grand Provost. His spirits seem high, and he was
blessed with the great winged one's visible form. It must have been
a glorious sight. A new Provost has risen.

Chapter 1

Very shortly I will have my ninetieth birthday. From all I gather about my
kin, that is ancient for a felar. My body and mind are still in great
shape, but I fear my eyes may be weakening. Provost Manden says I
might need a nice pair of reading glasses. And perhaps I will look
into that. On a far more grim note, Vindicator Odrirg has passed recently.
He was the oldest person I knew aside from myself. We both had been
through four Provosts, and many, many battles. He has gone to his Lord,
and I shall pray for him in the Hall of Vindicators. On a similar note,
Justiciar Tambar has retired, for reasons unknown by me. It angers me greatly.
Tambar disgraces the badge by tossing it to the dirt so easily.
A Blood Tribunal should be a Tribunal till the day they gasp their final
breaths.

Chapter 5

While I might fight for order with all my life, I knew principles of justice
long before those of order. I have always followed the Lords of Justice.
When I was young I prayed for Lord Drunsthol's presence, but it appears
the rumors are true...he does not accept any followers. Recently I learned
of Lord Kor who even has a devoted altar to the principles of Justice.
I have lived a long life, and my dying wish is to learn what I can about
Lord Kor's view of Justice, and how it relates to my own. I fear we may
have different views of justice, for my own deals more with crime and
punnishment, but I feel I can learn much from this immortal dwarf. I hope he
grants me his presence before my final rest.

Today Lord Kor's voice came to me from deep inside the stone.
He showed me aspects of Justice I had not considered.
He feels I cannot possibly follow his values, for I am a man of the Law.
He wishes me to ponder the question how do Laws break the circle
of Justice. I have many issues to ponder.

Chapter 3

Grudges and Grurks
I grow too old for these politics. Today, with the help of three Imperials,
we took the fetish. I offered it to the Citizens to defend, for I
could not by myself. It was not moments later that I was chastised
for actions that took place OFF-DUTY. I was told that my decision was
foolish and I have lost all respect with the Lords of the Spire.
When I took my pledge to earn my badge, I promised to serve the Spire,
not to gain as much 'respect' as I could. My decision was the correct one.
There is little point in taking the fetish, bringing it to the Spire,
only to have the Captain and myself slain, and the bone returned.
Grurk made me aware of Khasotholas attacking Lord Velkurah in the Spire.
I had not known this happened. And I feel sorry that our Lord, and Spire,
was disrepsected so. However our last missive concerning the Spire told us
to interact with the Imperials as we wish. And I did. If these politics
continue to lead to me being chastised for bunk reasons, I will have to take
my retirement. I am talked badly to by too many others to suffer the same
from the Spire. You would think there would be more appreciation for someone
who has been in the Spire so long. And more respect for their decisions.

Chapter 2

Today I had another conversation with the apparition of Lord Kor. He opened
my eyes to several more concepts concerning the Circle of Justice.
I have much to contemplate.
