Taichabel Braaza the Grand Master of Changelings
DescriptionBefore is a specimen of one of the most common races in Thera, a human. He stands about average height for his race, around five and a half feet tall. Brown hair hangs in down to past his shoulders in the back, and enough to constantly get in his eyes at the front. The eyes are dark brown, almost black and peer at the world in seeming indifference. Shoulders that aren't quite thin, yet not broad either are in line with the rest of his build. Neither muscular nor weak. Overall you notice nothing really remarkable.

RoleChapter 4 Second Experiment Added Fri May 15 19:36:09 2009 at level 25:The conclusion of the last experiment led me to wonder how many more extremes could I test and see the end result. Drawing conclusions from the previous test anything subjected to only one side of a coin cannot survive. I will no longer need a control as I know what normally treated rats do. The next obvious test for me is the difference between order and chaos. Recreating order would be easy, scheduled feedings, same light and darkness patterns. Perhaps a task that is the same everyday with the same reward? A maze perhaps.
The real problem lies in creating chaos. In making a list of random things to expose the rats to, isn't that the opposite? Chaos can be such a jumble it will make the head spin trying to recreate it. The best I can come up with is subjecting them to different experiences. I will make two lists, one with pleasurable experiences, and the other with painful or unpleasant. I will use a coin to decide which list to use, and dice to decide which act to perform. Once an act has been selected a coin will decide if it stays on the list, or gets crossed out. I'll make a wheel with three arrows. Around the edges I will mark a clock. One arrow will tell me what hour, the other the minute, and the third how many times a day is the wheel spun. What actually is done and when its done is left up to chance, eliminating my own personal thoughts on what would be Chaos.
The result... As expected neither set of rats thrived. The ones subjected to order became listless, and only really moving when the set time came for food, or the maze. If the world was ruled by order, then life becomes meaningless. And while it is not really dying, its not living either.
The set of rats that I recreated chaos with, well they didn't survive long. Using the wheel for feeding times it was sporadic if they were even fed at all. At times I would give them extra food or some other reward. Others they would be poked with a pin. Differing the experiences seemed to make them almost timid. Not knowing what was coming made them reluctant to do anything. After about 10 days when opening the box I found the rats all still, breathing hard. Shortly thereafter I think they gave up on life, as they all died.
Conclusion... All order makes for a meaningless existance that brings no pleasure. Chaos leads to the fear of anything good and an existance filled with uncertainty which leads to giving up. Like the experiment between night and day existance on only one side of a coin leads to no existance at all.

RoleChapter 2 The beginnings of a journal. Added Fri May 29 21:04:39 2009 at level 51:***Notes in a journal can be seen jotted down. The journal is leather bound and looks to be almost new.***
The more I travel the more things I see that must be balanced than just the major forces of evil and good, chaos and order, and the presence of magic in Thera. I see people even inside the Island govern their choices in an unbalanced way. Letting fear hold them back, or recklessness bring them too far. I've seen frustration make people act as if they've hit a stonewall. It is okay to experience these things, but it not okay to have govern your life by them.
A true Nexan must find the Balance in themselves as well as pushing for it in the world. If fear of losing the pretty armor you found keeps you from engaging the enemy, or fear of losing to an enemy makes you stand back then you are not balanced in yourself. On the other side of the coin if you recklessly put your life in danger and fall repeatedly without need, that is not Balanced either. Even then there are times where the right choice is sacrificing yourself for the greater Balance.
Frustration. I've seen frustration tip more souls of the Island than almost anything. Frustration leads to anger, and anger is an emotion that inside a Nexan it must be balanced. Of course the world is going throw you challenges, to balance those challenges you must overcome them without falling prey to giving up.
These observations since my experiments with the rats just once again enforces my view that balance is a necessary and an essential part of life. Thera needs balance to continue existance, and so do people. Without Balance you just become your enemies fodder, and a burden to yourself and the world.

RoleChapter 1 Calsabeeti Added Thu Jun 18 18:41:17 2009 at level 51:***A journal is here, it looks a little worn but still servicable for awhile***
A narrow trail through some plains, a resting point and Calbaseeti and I began to idly speak. I find her intriguing, and her thoughts are very unique. Being as she is part of a reclusive tride it is not odd that I have met none like her. She has dedicated her life to the healing arts, and she is very adept at it. While her views on why Balance is important is very different from anyone else I have spoken to, it pleases me that in the end it ties with what I believe. Balance is crucial for existance, balance must be maintained in order for existance to continue. I want to exist, and I want the things I hold dear to exist. So by that logic maintaining the Balance is as important as breathing.
A bit about Calbaseeti and her beliefs. She is a cleanser of souls, and keeping a soul corruption free is her mission in life. A soul is corruptible when it is passed from the body, be it when it is reborn or when it leaves the body forever. Souls are linked, and the weakening of souls would weaken if not abolish the tribe she is a member of. A short summation of her words would be that if Darkness reigned, darkness would slay the cowering light in hordes, thus opening the souls to corruption. By keeping the Balance maintained, the less chance souls have for corruption the better off she, and her tribe will be. The better Balance is maintained, the more likelihood that she will not be destroyed by the corruption of souls. So to that end, her existance is dependant on Balance, as I believe everyone elses is.
Like I mentioned earlier, it was quite pleasing once that conclusion had been drawn, to see the beginning of a belief to be so different, yet end at the same spot that my ends. I've sent a missive to all members of the Island, and eagerly await responses to compare how everyone else believes. How they came to that belief.
