Chapter 6

The mithril mines beneath Aran Gird are older than most of the living gods and have seen more horror
than any of the surface prisons. Here slaves from every race toil each day to dig out more truesilver
(mithril) for the ruling clans of the mighty duergar city. And it was here Nidblot should
work as a guard, just as his father and his father's father had.

Nidblot took control over his own future. He wished for so much more than the mines could grant him.
Respect, true power and leadership would be found elsewhere. Knowing that he hardly would be missed he
slipped into the underdark after his shift had ended one day. Following directions he had payed in gold
for the way to the surface was uneventfull. The sun scorched his face for the first time at a sandy
bank at the riverside above Vorolia. From here time could only tell if he would succeed in his
carefully laid plans?

Chapter 5

"Wont let ye out for less dan 3 gold", the guard lieutenant said harshly. And to enforce his
claims to the bribes two off the guards stepped a bit closer. Nidblot had foreseen this change
of the previously settled prize of 1 gold. After all greed is the most dominant trait amongst
duergars. Keeping the gold coins in different places seemed like a wise plan for further
increases in the toll, and while moaning over the prize he slowly counted up to 3 gold.

Getting out of Aran Gird was the easy part of the journey. He had gotten detailed stories of
the dangers that awaited him in the underdark, but only vague descriptions of the path to
follow towards the surface. Duergars seldom have friends, at least friends in the sense of the
word lightwalkers use. A soldier Nidblot used to drink with had explained the way his raiding
party had taken to the surface, but when you are drinking much beer it is more important to
put weight on the dreaded drows, cavefishers, driders and hook horrors. And of course
Nidblot took a few turns on his way, and barely escaped the patrolling drows by using his wits
and patience. Sniffing in some strange fungus caused a blackout for two days, but somehow
the hook horrors in the abandoned mines left him alone. It was perhaps will of Lord Daevryn
that the young duergar should reach the surface. At least Nidblot thought it was so.

The first days on the surface was spent on adjusting to the nasty and bright sun. Running a
few errands for shopkeepers and studying maps of the continent. Thera was much bigger than
he had thought, but that just opened up for more possibilities. He heard rumours of a vale
filled with elves, and did many raids there killing weak elf soldiers, raping elf girls and
gathering silver. There are few things which give a greater thrill than power over life and
death.

Chapter 4

Seeking out Lord Daevryns shrine took time. It was well hidden to prevent the unworthy from
finding it. The old warrior Malloy allowed the young priest to stay in the halls to pray and
meditate, and one day the great Lord granted him an audience. All-knowing as Lord Daevryn
is he already knew of the journey towards the surface and the innermost thoughts Nidblot had
Nidblots ambitions and plans were discussed, and the path to serve his Lord most efficiently
was cut out for him. The longest journey starts with the first step. The road ahead would be
measured in smaller and achievable goals. There is always a measurement for success. Since
Lord Daevryn expects nothing else than the best Nidblot had to make himself worthy to serve
his Lord. Twenty dead infidels were the first test the young priest had to pass. Creating fear
among the infidels and respect from his peers can be achieved by bleeding dry those who
stands in his way. It was clear that Nidblot should not come back to the Shrine before he had
done his task. It is better to be feared than loved. At least for a duergar.

Chapter 3

Today Nidblot delivered a bloody sack with skin from his dead enemies to Malloy. Malloy is the shrineguardian of the
true Lord Daevryn. If you could stomach to sort out the maggot crawling skin there would be more than twenty skins from
different races. Some skins were rottening, some were pretty fresh, some had parts of flesh stuck to them.
The first test was passed.

Chapter 2

For many years the Spire has been in war with those who live like savages in the wild. They
call themselves Outlanders, others call them treedwellers. Call them whatever you like, if
something look like shit and smells like it, it is probably shit. Hundreds of city guards have
died to these whoresons, and still their main camp stands untouched north of Arkham. This
must change. The tribunal must rally forth, and take the war to the Tree. It should be more
common than not that we control their fetish. We have the soldiers to win this war, but the
leadership and courage are missing.
The current Provost cares little for this war, and seldom does the Spire take initiative in this
war. This is a simple and wrong attitude to the problem, and it is not solving anything. Our
current policy is like the attitude of an old whore waiting for a customer to arrive while she is
Hamsah.

Chapter 1

Dagdan, Arkham, Balator, Darsylon, Akan, Tir Talath, Udgaard and Arial City. Numerous are
the cities that avoids the order and justice the Spire brings to Thera. If all cities in the realm
were under the influence of the Spire the agents of chaos would be hard pressed to survive.
They would be forced to live amongst the rubble in the sewers or beg for food on the main
roads connecting this new world order. Furthermore thousands of fresh troops would be at the
disposal of the Spire in its war against the Outlanders.
Nidblot has slowly been planning to bring the Arial City into the fold of the Spire. The arial
emperor is weak and frail. With him gone the queen would need help to rule her city. With its
professional services, already successful in several large cities, the Spire could offer help.
Perhaps to quell some arranged riots. After some time the terms of this help would be
renegotiated harshly, and another city would be under control. Thus expanding the future seat
of power for the Spire and Nidblot. Already he had the ear of the arial queen, and soon more
of the dark arial guards would accept his gold. It will be a glorious day when the tribunal
pillars glow in Arial City.
