Chapter 7

It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime storms, rain pouring down as if the
gods had only just now created all the river beds and the oceans, and wanted
to fill them up in a mere second. A hurricane tore at the very fabric of
creation, strong enough to break a Dragon's wings, if he'd be foolish enough
to fly up in it. Or perhaps the wind would simply break open it's lair, and
toss the beast high into the air, just as a lizard would throw up a worm,
just before eating it.

Bolts of lightning flashed up at a rythm to match the Earth's heartbeat,
setting the top of the hill in a backlight, turning the clouds up above into
a blanket of fierce light, each time a bolt flares downward. There is no
movement at all, except for the trees weathering the storm, until they break.
But wait, there's this figure moving up the hill, setting itself against the
backlight of the storm. This black figure stumbling upward, until it reaches
the top of the hill.

A man, no, more than a man, a Giant, now clearly visible, standing on the top
of the hill, his arms spread out, his head raised, shouting out loudly "Take
me! I deserve to die, not her!"
As if in answer, three bolts fall down at once, hitting the Giant squarely.
He is tossed down the hill at a speed, high enough to send him crashing
through several trees, breaking their tops. With a crash, the Giant touches
the ground again, now a broken, beaten up shell of what he was before moving
up that hill. Although a pain, fiercer than anything he could ever imagine,
courses through his entire body, there is only one thought flowing through
the Giant's mind: "I'll live, by the Storms, I shall live! I shall see my
loved one revenged. I'll live!"

And then all that remains is the blackness ...

Chapter 6

Finding not only his life shattered, he himself now a broken man, Nian had
plenty of time to ponder about what had occured to him. But each time he did
it, the pain and the sorrow of a loss, so very near, came back at him. Each
of the days, during his long recovery, it was the same thing, until one happy
day, a Bard came by with what could be no other than pure chance. His was a
song of sorrow and despair, and all of sudden Nian felt his heart rejoice. It
felt as if he had finally found someone to share his dreams with, filled with
suffering. He was no longer alone. Although the Bard never knew it, he had
probably saved Nian's life. His music had given him hope where all other
things failed.

Chapter 5

I see her radiant smile in the sun that's reflected by the water, I see her
eyes in the stars that twinkle, I feel her gentle touch, as I move my hands
through the wet grass, I hear her voice on the wind. I see her face in my
mind ... The face of a lady I wondered would ever stop smiling. I was
convinced she'd keep on smiling, even when around the undead, and she'd be
safe, because they'd start smiling too. Nothing could tear it away, nothing
could break us apart. Nothing, except for the thing I did ... It drove her
away, into death. Her smile vanished, the moment she killed herself.

Chapter 4

I did an enquiry with a Tribunal, to verify if my name is mentioned somewhere
within the old archives of the Spire. Initially, he did not even understand
at first what I meant to ask, so clearly the name Nian doesn't ring a bell.
That in itself was a good omen. Then, after a while, the Tribunal probably
thought a bit further on what I asked, and came to understand my request. He
went into the archives and found nothing.

It means my name is cleared! I am forgotten! Now if only I could ever come to
forget...

Chapter 3

I have been found wanted, and in all honesty, it does me nothing. Well,
that's not entirely true. It does hurt me that I have to set what others may
find a bad example, but that's how it is. The Light is the main priority, the
one that goes before all others. It is by that standard that all things are
judged, and that is why I feel no shame or regret. At least it means, I
suppose, that I've truely left the past behind me.

What does pain me, is that I must disappoint Zaltais, he is a good friend,
and I have let him down. He will not understand why it is necessary, nor why
I simply CANNOT turn myself in. I must see things through, and bear this
verdict as best as I can, regrettable as it may be to some.

I will endure what I must.

Chapter 2

- Composed to the rhythm of a well known melody, the words of a song have
reached you -

Never did I mean to hurt you,
but I could see it in your eyes
All you wanted me to do is speak,
but all I ever gave you was lies.

You saw the fire in me,
and you said it scared you.
You said I embraced it,
and I know that was true.

I rose to protect you,
and I had won the day.
But by slaying the other,
I tossed you away.

I believed I fought for you,
but after all was said and done,
selfish truth revealed, after the fight,
I was happy for myself, I had won.

Fast, I learned I had truely hurt you,
I had shattered all you worked for,
Within me you saw, the very thing,
you wished to find in this world, no more.

And then you left me forever,
complete was now my shame,
pain and remorse struck me,
I knew, it was I who was to blame.

I yelled and howled,
no one answered my call.
Until the hurricane came crashing,
breaking my body, making me fall.

The red haze was upon me,
the fire, slowly dying, finally out
Dark thoughts I embraced,
no desire for life, no longer proud.

And then it happened,
with a voice of thunder,
a song struck me like a bolt,
tearing my heart asunder.

The fog was lifted, misery gone.
A broken shell of a man I'd been
empty and hollow, nothing to give,
now filled with a hope, seldom seen.

A dream of a Maiden, and the
memory of a lady lost in time.
Thundering heart, eyes sparkling,
I said goodbye to a love, so sublime.

Death once near, now defeated,
a strong desire for life, I now bore.
Inspiration had found me,
and I shall despair ... no more.

Chapter 1

After my Captain had taught me the lesson I so badly needed, I was brought on
the brink of utter destruction. The first step to overcome it, was to restore
mentally. Initially that was impossible, because I did not wish it. Then that
Bard, - likely Malthalia, even though she denies it -, came along.

From then on, it was only a physical recovery. One that came with a vast
amount of scars, and a deep pain within. At first it was a slight nuisance. A
pain that came when the wind blew coldly on a hot day. But now that I am
three hundred years old, I am not exactly a youth anymore. Nay, as my body is
feeling the weight of time, the physical burden manifests itself more
frequently, and more painfully than ever.

No, I do not look forward to getting any older, like this.
I shall bear what I must. With dignity, or without ...
