Chapter 1

Elivhree was born as many drow are in Teth Azeleth, ancient city of the dark
elves. Of House Du'Vear she was swept up in the constant struggle of the
houses. There can be no doubt that from the moment of her birth her fate was
to be chosen for her. Such is the way the drow houses, and if born a female
drow, it is even more so the way.

The most important position any female can obtain in dark-elf society
is without question a priestess and someday perhaps even High Priestess. So
was Elivhree chosen to learn well the ways of the church doctrine and
therefore its superiority. Yet something was soon to be amiss in her holy
studies and tutelage. Elivhree had little reverence even as a young girl for
the worship of the drow temples. While later this would give way to outright
blasphemy and scorn, it is perhaps with the encouragement of an outside God,
equally as mischievous and with an eye on young Elivhree, that things were
hastened down this path.

No matter how hard Elivhree tried, which admittedly wasn't very hard,
things would go wrong wherever she was present. Yochlol summoning candles
would get knocked over and catch on fire from sudden gusts of unusual cavern
winds. Spiders would mysteriously meet accidental yet horrific ends.
Priestesses' lectures would give way to gibberish or simple befuddlement
causing loss of words and leaving the mouths of fellow students agape.
While none of this could be pinned on Elivhree, it wasn't long before her
presence in such situations raised eyebrows and drew an early end to her
priestess pursuits.

With obvious disappointment House Du'Vear turned towards the School of
Sorcery, knowing the power of a wizard and their lack of prowess in magic
among the houses. Elivhree hated it from the moment she began, instead
preferring the feel of her throwing daggers or the way in which a mallet
could be used to break the smallest bones of the house slaves. Yet while she
had more say than nearly any male, she long knew she must bend to the will of
the elder women in House Du'Vear.

With reluctance she began her mage training, learning the nuances of magical
resistance and how to avoid it. She was taught basic things in knowledge
first if not yet casting. She was taught spell theory. Simple things, but
important things were taught such as when a fireball was the right choice and
when it would burst and destroy lucrative allies in a tight situation risking
defeat. She was taught which spells were best used when to kill only a few
of those on your side, while doing more extensive damage to the enemy. She
learned of magical creatures and the utility that could be gleaned from them.
She was smart and cunning, she listened, but oh how she hated it all.
Sometimes, she could not resist wondering what useful magical properties
could be gleaned from the heart or tongue of one of her mage tutors who
droned on and on.

Then spellcasting began and she was horrific. It was apparent and the
snickers of her peers rarely let her forget it. Cantrips rarely did what
they were suppose to do. She could not chill with her hands, she could not
create the smallest of magic missiles. She couldn't change even the
smallest attribute of own body, and soon she realized that there was never
going to be any more than the slightest hi
