Chapter 1

During my travels I have met several citizens of an Empire that is headquartered in
Northeast Thera. Whispers peaked my curiosity, and upon further investigation, I
discovered that this Empire strives to maintain Order throughout the lands and shrouds
Thera in Darkness. I also discovered that they employ the services of my guild and have
quite a network of spies. After speaking with Valryn, a dark shadow in the Empire, I
received a blood oath from him and swore my services to the Dark Lords of Thera.
Newfound excitement has found its way into my blood and the promise intrigue and
deception that comes with being a Shadow thrills me. The Empire has power beyond my
understanding, and I can only hope to one day imagine what it would be like to wield
such power. All that is left for me is to find the fastest way to excel...

Chapter 2

...spending hours upon hours mastering the intricacies of kicking, twisting, throwing and
striking methods that my guild master has recently taught me. I have grown a new
appreciation for combat and fighting opponents rather than waiting in the shadows to
strike them dead with a single blow. I have experienced defeat for the first time, and
while I was not beaten badly it disturbs me because I am not used to being beaten at all.
The chaos of battle is something that I do not like, but reputation grows through battle
and it is important to me that my battle prowess continues to drive my forward my
reputation.

I have come to realize that the reason I train so hard is for the pursuit of power and the
control that comes with it. I used to think that power came from a deathblow or killing
strike. The sensations and excitement that I felt at moments such as those have long since
past. Now the killing has become routine, a job that I enjoy but a job that does not bring
me closer to any of my goals. My guild master has a closed mind. Tunnel vision leads
him to think that mastery of skill and killing prowess is all that he will ever need in this
life. While I believe that skill mastery is essential, it alone cannot bring acknowledgment
and reputation. Politics and deception can lead to immortality. No one will remember his
name in the generations to come, but perhaps they will remember mine...

the opportunist that I am, I have found employment from several different
proprietorships. Thief guilds are always willing to throw money at those who have skills
such as I have, they veritably...

...but I suppose there is a certain hierarchy in any profession. It seems that the more I
work to obtain higher status, the more disappointed I am with each kill. I was hired
recently by a wealthy landowner to kill a wine merchant who had not paid rent for his
stall space. I spent several days observing movement patterns and daily habits, usual
stalking procedure. Since preparation is the key element to any kill, I am meticulous
when it comes to observing every behavior and mannerism. When it came time for the
kill, it was almost too easy. I can no longer achieve the rush that I once felt when my
