For these reasons, against the wishes of his parents, he left the village when
he was old enough to reasonably do so. He settled into the unassuming and quiet
South Darien Settlement and took on the job of cleaning and clearing tables at a
local inn. He enjoyed his work, mostly because the locals saw him as just
another felar and never even took note of his runtiness, much less comment on it
frequently. He began to grow confident in his speaking to others and he learned
much by watching bard performances, tale-tellers, and eventually magic. Magic
fascinated him. The night a transmuter casted a spell of enlargement and another
of giant strength upon him he instantly fell in love with the idea of being a
mage himself. To be able to manipulate his on body! To make it stronger! To be
something else COMPLETELY! This called to him more than any other dream had
before that moment.

He joined the shapeshifter guild. He trained hard. He loved fighting, he loved
having the ABILITY to fight. To feel worthwhile. To actually PROTECT others and
prove himself while doing so. Combat to him represents freedom and strength.
Being able to physically defend himself and others just offers such a primal
sense of completeness and joy to him, opening up so many possibilities. He
quickly grew in the guild. He greedily gobbled up any and all opportunities of
growth and building strength.

When he began to craft new dreams about how to best use his newfound power, he
reminisced on the tales he learned of the Fortress of Light and the Maran. Of
Shokai, Baerinika, Aarn, and all the old gods of purity and light. And that is
where his path will now take him, the Fortress of Light, to learn the ways of
combat and protect others through the destruction of the foul and wicked. He
will be a sentry after all.
