Chapter 1

Koob was born in the mines of Sitran as the daughter of one of the rebels.
She never knew her father, because during a raid to free some more slaves,
her mother was left for dead with a severe head wound. One of the slavers
found her though, nursed her back to health, and fell in love with her.
Suffering from amnesia, it took her mother several years before she realized
who she actually was and what she had been fighting for her whole life. By
the time she made it back to the rebel camp, Koob was already 12. Having
grown up amongst the slavers, it took Koob a lot of effort to adapt to the
life of the rebels, and finally Darinal, the leader of the rebels, himself,
took her in to study with him. For he saw that the, often lonely, child
approached everything and everyone with a great sense of honest humor, and
understood that such a person could not have a cruel heart. During those
teachings, Darinal discovered that the child had shown a great interest in
his past, and not long after, those teachings became trainings. And during
those trainings, Koob learned about the Paladin Code, and she took to living
by it.
At the age of 32, Darinal sent Koob away to study in Galadon, for he realized
that her training would never be completed if she stayed within the mines.
Before she was able to sneak through the enemy lines, she vowed that she
would never take up a weapon, not even to fight her enemies, because she had
seen the cruel and sadistic way in which they could be used to subdue another
living being.
At first, Koob had problems adapting to the very strict application of the
Paladin Code. All of the other students were more "controlled" in their
actions (but perhaps not always in their thoughts), and even though she
didn't fault anyone, her humorous approach made her stand out in a way that
was not always appreciated by her fellow students. Still, she continued and
at the age of 20, she was named Paladin, and was allowed to venture outside
the guild.
