Chapter 3

Hello again, friend. It has been a while, hasn't it? Much has happened but
let me start with my family, like last time. As you might have guessed, my
father is dead. No, it was not violent or unexpected in any way. There is no
stopping time. He was a lucky man to live out his life on his farm without
having to witness or even participate in battles. I am only sad he did not
live long enough to see me being known as an Acolyte of the Golden Sun. My
mother was so proud, I didn't think she would ever let go of me again. I am a
grown man, but I guess she still sees me as her little boy. Will she ever
not?

My life within the walls of the Fortress has been great, although there have
been a lot of bloodshed. We are often under siege by all manner of wicked
people but we all knew life would be like that when we made our homes there.
There are two people within our walls that I have come to spend a lot of time
with. Rydell is one. A very loving and lovable person. He has been a guiding
light to me since I first were welcomed there. The other is Tolgrumm, our
Captain. Having him at my side as the darkness close in on us and I have no
fear.

I have not yet figured out what drove me to serve the Light. What force
pulled me toward the Fortress. If it was divine guidance, whatever Lord or
Lady wanted me there has not yet made himself or herself known to me. I've
seen Lady Baerinika a few times, even shared a few words, but I feel it is
not her. She honored me as I became known as an Acolyte but I sense a
different kind of strength in her. What has guided me has a more gentle
touch. Perhaps the future will reveal the truth to me, or perhaps the Light
itself is happy with the way things are. Time will tell.
