Chapter 1

Surprisingly much has been going according to plan for Tarleton. Already, he
is an Elite Imperial Blade. And on a recent trip to Seantryn Modan, he
stopped by to intimidate his parents.

They told him at first they had eight gold coins saved up. He walked out of
the house with ten.

And Tarleton has gained some notoriety for his dubious poetry.

For him, it has served as an outlet. He finds himself hopelessly outnumbered
the vast majority of his life, and this is his way of coping. Incidentally,
he has noticed it has had an interesting side-effect: Enemies who appreciate
his humor have shown a greater degree of mercy, even if Tarleton does not. He
has learned his likability and humor are perhaps his greatest weapons of all.
And while it is working incredibly well against those outside of the Empire,
he intends to soon turn these weapons against those within.

He had discussed his plans, to some degree, with Enlilth, from whom he deeply
desires advice, acceptance and support. And the god's words have encouraged
him.

Ultimately, he hopes to overthrow the War Master and ultimately the Empress
herself, though he has kept both of these desires quiet. Instead, he kills
with humor and generosity to younger Blades and other Imperials, slowly
accumulating good will.

And Tarleton has decided that after he completes his comedic series on the
sexual habits of Thera's various cabals, he will move on to mock other
targets: His own take on current and historic events, and riffs on religions
aside from his Lord Enlilth's are among his ideas.
