Chapter 1

Angale is somewhat obsessive, and holds himself to an incredibly high
standard. Some might call this arrogant, and he has been accused of
that i the past. But in truth it is not. He is self-deprecating
with regard to his own abilities, and extremely honest about his
faults and mistakes. He is honest, polite, and has a strong sense of
personal honor. Though, with regard to the latter, he is not
ignorant of the fact that warfare is often dependent on deception and
subterfuge. He considers these to merely be elements of strategy,
and not dishonorable.

In his dedication to his training, and to his causes, however, what
Angale lacks is compassion. Whereas a Maran might deviate from his
stated goals in order to help someone in need, Angale would not.
Whereas a Maran might stay his hand rather than striking down a
Tribunal who stood in the way of his oponent, Angale would not. In
this sense he is imminently practical, and not particularly swayed by
moral concerns. The one who protects his enemy becomes his enemy.
The one in need, if not his enemy or ally, is simply irrelevant.

In addition to his personal desire to succeed, Angale is also driven
by a desire to atone for his decision to leave Arial City and break
the family tradition of service to the Emperor. He may not admit it,
but he believes that if he is successful in his pursuits that it will
validate the decision to leave, and smooth over any objections his
parents and siblings may still harbor.
