Chapter 2

*thud* The vacant stare of the severed head stared up at him. It took a
moment for the body to catch up, but slowly it doubled over and fell to the
ground.The quiet morning seemed as lifeless as the human corpse. The
silent ranger surveyed the horizon, the looming, snow-capped mountain at his
back. The orcs would awaken soon and test the guard of soldiers about the
keep. But Irhedieh would cautiously remain unseen, choosing targets and
honing his skill, channeling his thoughts into his blade.

He knew of the bounty on his head. He had even recognized some of the
Emperor's elite guards in Voralian searching for him. Bemused, though,
Irhedieh chuckled a bit to himself, ruffling his feathers. They would find
him in no city.

The memories of his father briefly crossed his mind. Irhedieh had joined him
soon after the campaign against the cloud giants began.He recalled the
dark, crimson stains of blood upon the snow, of the ambush of Outlanders
versus the mixed force of Udgaardian pikemen and arial warriors, the steam of
warm bodies fallen in the snow, and the pleas for aid. Death had never
bothered him before - it had never been tangible. Until it was his father
taken. Then - it became personal. And Irhedien - he became an agent of
death.
